I have had bad experience with Seagate also, which is why I was asking. However, if you look at failure charts being published, WD has some issues also. HGST, which I believe is WD has some good numbers, but they don't make a surveillance drive yet.

Had no idea these systems used the (proprietary?) .DAV video file format. What a royal pain in the ass! I can't find a damn thing that will play them cleanly outside the NVR! My best available screen is my tablet that I'm on now, which is 1440p. I use this to verify video quality on my cameras. It was easy on my reolink system because everything under the sun plays mp4. But the only thing I can find that plays DAV files on android in not-total-shit quality is MX player. But MX player quality is still bad. What did you all do?

Hi Big Ry,

When you do a backup from the NVR it will include a player.

When you export a video clip from the web interface, it will offer to also export "smart player", which plays the .dav files. Agree about the RPITA. SmartPSS will export in a few more common video formats, but I have never been able to successfully play any of them.

Is this different than downloading video clips? Because when i download them i get no such option. And it sounds like this is only a solution for PC, no? I'm still SOL for Android?

Lol, the only two seagate drives I own are 80gb internal 3.5" Barracuda SATA (from 2005) and 500gb external SATA 2.5" from 2009.
Rest of my drives are WD
After two Seagate Momentus 750GB drives that ran like crap since Day 1 (one eventually drying, taking all my files with it), Seagate has put a sour taste in my mouth. This is only limited experience though.
