With the help of a buddy that uses their commercial s/w it's all up and running, amazing stuff for a FREE application.

Even he said he couldn't believe all the features offered in the free version. Glad I stuck with it...

Did you have any issues with your cams not being installed even though they could be seen?
I tried to use this last week and could only get one of my 3 cams into it. I have 1 dahua ptz and 2 hikvision that are pretty common so I'm not sure why it won't work.
It kept telling me the password was wrong when I know it wasn't. I even made a user just for this and it didn't work.

Well my blue iris trial isn't going very well so far so maybe I'll try again if I can't get that working.

Asked my buddy that set it up and he said:

"He should try logging into the Web interface of the camera and make sure it works. The username and password is going to be the same knew he uses to log into the camera directly. Make sure the ip address and port number are correct. Your cameras were using port 85 for some reason.,,."

Looking for a solution for a cheap solution for just two cameras - but I can't see a free version (apart from vms), just a 30 day trial.

"Milestone offers a basic free version. I think there are some people on the site that use it.
XProtect Essential+ is our free VMS product. You get access to the basic video surveillance functions, like recording, playback and video file sharing. The free version supports up to 8 cameras, unlimited video retention and the option to integrate third-party applications. It is the most feature-rich free VMS available on the market."

That said I use Blue Iris and have been very happy with it.. Not free beyond the demo version but I think still $60 it's a great deal IMO compared to other software full version \ functionality cost if you decide to expand your setup.

I've had my XProtect Essential+ free version working for about a year now running 15 cameras. 8 Hikvision cameras and 2 Amcrest and 5 Foscam all feeding in to my XProtect.
