I'm looking at getting one of the Hikvision (or third party branded) turret cameras, but there are so many, I don't know which one to get. I need a good day/night vision camera, but which one? Some look like CMOS, others not?

I need this to be an IP POE. I don't want the IR to be visible at night, so I assume EXIR?
Also, they seem to have what looks like a green light on the front. Does this light up and if so, can be it turned off?

Here's the link:

see the hikvision low light camera thread...
green does not light up...
all ir built into hikvision cameras will emit a red glow...even exir....there is no need to hide your camera.

IR is easy to defeat, black & white footage offeres less evidence vs colour. If your intruder knows the position of all your cameras there's little chance you'll get the evidence you'll need, its the one they don't see that will get the money shot.

Low light camera, IR turned off - augment with floodlighting - better evidence and more chance of getting a face shot.

Depends where you put it and how observant they are...

The red glow is a dead give-away and can be useful to draw attention but not to capture evidence or at least recognition, the camera more discreetly placed at low level with its IR off will often get the money shot - seen it play out many times with fools who think they can approach a site wearing reflective high-viz strips to try and glare out the IR enabled cameras.
