I want to dedicate an old 12mm Hik as an LPR cam. I am lazy and don't want to run another cable. Is it possible to add a POE switch near the existing camera? In other words, I want to unplug the existing camera, plug that cable into a switch, and then run 2 short cables. 1 to the existing and another to the LPR camera. Both cams are POE. An electrical outlet is very close so that is no problem. I just don't know how POE switches act plugged into another POE switch. TIA!

will work no problem

PoE switch interfaces only provide power when asked by the terminating device (cam/phone/access point). When you daisy-chain PoE switches the interface(s) for the switch to switch connections just remain in normal data only mode you can link as many as you need.

There is a RJ45 splitter to allow two feeds from one cable?

I'm a novice so not sure it'd suit your setup btw.
But I have read it is appropriate for cctv.

Yes there are splitters that can be used for network cables, they take some of the pairs to one device and the remaining ones to the other device. I don't advise you use these for standard networking or CCTV. If you'r really strggling that much to run another cable there are many better options. You could use power line adaptors or you could put another cheap PoE switch at the end
