Mine arrived yesterday. Haven't played much with it yet. Seems ok. Been running all Hikvision, so the UI looks less polished and has fewer options. Trying to determine what I am going to do with it. Could it be flashed with Dahua? Would that add any value?

Hi Roger,

I don't think Amcrest changes much on the firmware - so I would probably leave it as is unless there is a clear reason to do so.

I was curious if the tripwire like features were implemented in firmware or hardware. Thought they Dahua firmware might make some of those features work.

Hi Roger,

Firmware will be important either way you look at it, as it would be doing any of the calls to the DSP to process the calculations.

So, yes having both a good hardware and firmware is key. Note you can offload the compute from the camera to a VMS system, such as Blue Iris.

This is btw why newer generation intel i5/i7 chips are preferred for Blue Iris as the BI software can make calls on the Intel chip to process some of the calculations more effectively than using the general CPU logic.
