Hi,

Im looking for a ip video surveillance software that has decent people recognition with 16 cams, mix of Hik, Amcrest, FOSCAM. Im not looking for tree, plant, spider, bird recognition, just people.

I found sighthound and that seems to do a decent job.
Is there anything else you can reccomed? I'd be willing to spend money to buy something bigger than I need, eg xprotect.

I tried, Ksenos, Axxon next, Xprotect, Avigilon, Blue Iris, GeniusVision, ispy and non of them seem to have it, at least not in the trial. I'd be willing to spend money.

If what you mean by "people recognition" is facial recognition or anything further than just basic motion/object detection, then you're gonna be paying a lot of money... and I mean a lot, unless you have the computer science skills to create a machine learning openCV system that can learn to recognize certain faces/people.

Just FYI, facial recognition is kind of bleeding edge tech... Even for a giant like Amazon, who now has a facial recognition API called "Rekognition," it's still has a very difficult time matching faces correctly even under the best of conditions. So it's very rare to see that kind of tech easily available to consumers and bundled with video surveillance systems.

Yes we call them properly mounted PIR sensors. Avigilon does have this Features | Avigilon -
it wont be cheap.

I don't have a lot of experience with PIRs used conjunction with camera systems... but I'm curious how easy something other than "people" still trigger even a well mounted PIR?
Like a large rat or insect radiating enough IR or close enough to the sensor? This question also makes me remember a mythbusters episode where I think a PIR alarm was fooled with someone walking thru a hallway in super slow-motion, but maybe I'm thinking of something else...

PIR sensors are much more reliable and accurate than any vms algorithm. if you have rats crawling near your sensors you have much larger issues.....right, the intruders you are looking for are going to walk super slow because they are pros and see your sensor (and that is not even possible most PIR)...perhaps they will also wear a dog costume and crawl on all 4's to fool your "people detection" algorithm. At some point you need to think logically.

I've got a couple of new Optex Exterior motion detectors specifically used for CCTV applications on the way. Once I receive them I'll post videos up of Initial unboxing and then a 30 day review video. Here's my YouTube channel Marcel Blake

Regarding outdoor motion sensors:
- most are hard wired devices
- the most accurate units combine 1 or 2 PIR sensors with a microwave motion sensor.
- If you're using them outdoors, units designed for outdoor use are best.
- Pay attention to the mounting instructions. Mounting at the wrong height, pointing at objects that change temperature rapidly, etc. negatively impacts performance. Some of the sensors recommend a fairly low mounting height of around 4' others can be mounted around 7' and the request to exit models can be mounted higher but changes what they detect a bit.

Some specific models of outdoor motion sensor to consider:
DSC LC-171, Interlogix RCR-REX, Bosch OD850, Optex OP-08, Optex VXI-DAM, Optex LX-402 (single pir i think), or on the cheap Paradox DG85 (search ebay for "outdoor dual pir"; not as good but much cheaper)

Rats crawling up and down walls aren't unheard of in warehouses... they are pretty damn capable...lol funny you should mention a costume... I figure it'd try a youtube search for the episode and found it! And they did try a chicken-like costume to try to fool the sensor! But it seems that sensor is not a PIR, it's a ultrasonic motion sensor. So quite different. But if there's a will there's a way I suppose...

Forgot to tell you guys which Optex sensors I have coming. The LX-402 with the wall bracket and ceiling bracket, and the Optex HX-40.

In the full episode they did experiment with PIR motion detectors, but they didn't try crawling or moving very slowly on the pir detectors.
Not too relevant to the discussion here, but there are some higher security motion sensors that are extra sensitive and well suited for locations like banks and pharmacies.

How do you define "decent people" that you want to recognize? My priority is to identify people who are not decent.

I disagree: think she spent 20 minutes moving very slowly and this was successful. Why does the film show some fence link chain at the film location? To protect from what?

The clip in this thread they only used an ultrasonic motion detector. In the full episode, they also experimented with PIR detectors.

Not sure if you're trying to be funny or if you're running into a language barrier.
In the context of this thread decent means something that functions reasonably well.

Ultra sonic sensors would be a nightmare outdoors. Never left a window adjar on a car with these? They trigger with every slight gust of wind. Outside you also have rain drops moving through the pattern, leaves moving on bushes / trees / even potted plants in the line of sight. Even PIR's can trigger in windy conditions.

Not quite sure why you need facial recognition unless you're trying to automate an entry system or customs style checkpoint. Programs such as BI can alarm when movement occurs in trip zones and not only record but text you. So unless you're trying to match faces to a database, in my opinion, Keep It Simple. Use a program that records when trip zones are tripped, use text messaging and remote viewing if you need an instant check on who's there. Choose your cameras carefully with a mix of high resolution or PTZ zooms for the day and 2mp starvis for night, and whoever you capture should be recognisable from the footage.

Was trying to be funny.
