Every now and then I get a builder/gardener or someone doing work in front of the camera, this will result in about a million email alerts...is there a way to suspend these alerts nice and quickly with a mobile phone app ? or alternatively is there a setting that auto suspends email alerts after x amount of alerts or x time has passed with activity in front of the cam ?

many thanks

You can set up a time schedule in your IVS rules or increase the time limit in snapshot email settings. Other than that there is no other way that I know of.

Consider running a vms like blueiris... It will allow you to easily accomplish your goals..
thanks Fenderman I do have a spare miniPC that isn't doing much...how can Blueiris resolve my woes..does it take the feeds and then allow me to set up and fwd snapshots to emails and have the ability to turn on and off alerts remotely quickly and easily ?

I currently use survellance station but it's pretty limited

Thanks Fenderman I installed BI over the weekend and bought a full licence as it's excellent, works a treat and even runs as a service ..as you said everything can be customised which is exactly what I needed..works a treat and email alerts with push notifications now turn up within seconds which is what I need...just one question I take it you are using a VPN to connect to BI or would you say BI is so widely used and supported so well that port forwarding could be used securely...I take it even with a VPN server running ( unless on your router ) on my NAS box I would need to forward a port to my NAS box, so forwarding of at least one port would always be required ?

You will never be able to return to a standalone nvr...you are now officially spoiled.
Portforwarding a pc/camera/nvr generally can never be used securely (though a single port to your nas vpn is fine) ...setting up a vpn is easy enough...if you choose to port forward, if you setup your BI pc/cams on a separate vlan you limit the exposure to that system...
