I am planning a couple of 4-6 camera systems for myself and another family member. I previously had a basic 1080 Zmodo system that bit the dust in an electrical storm. Not sure if any of my existing ip cameras still function.

I am very much a DIY guy and fairly tech handy, but a little rusty on complex networks. Cut my teeth on Netware and windows 3.11 to tell my age. lol

Looking for 8 channel NVR's with various cameras. So I am very much leaning towards piecing together a system or two. I have one location that I would like to view oncoming traffic at about 600 meters, so I am keenly interested in a long range camera.

I have been spending more time than I should trying to decide on a system and I stumbled upon this site.
This site looks like a great resource, I must say.

However, I do see quite a lot of recommendations for a specific vendor - Andy. I do wonder if these are genuine and independent. Seems like the go to vendor.

Anyway, see you around.

Welcome. Andy sells good cameras and lots of people on the forum are very happy with him, the cameras and his service. He specializes in Dahua products, we also have some vendors that specialize in Hikvision products. Read up a bit, you will see that there are only genuine reviews here.

Great. Was leaning towards the Hikvision brand before coming here.

I will say that the corporate IT guy at work just brought up a couple of cameras, which I made a note of while chatting him up yesterday. After a little research, they look to be unbranded Dahua products. So, that is also swaying my opinion, as I respect his opinion.

Can't go wrong with either. I have both brands on my house and am happy with them. I, like a lot of members here use blue iris to record.

Yea, not sure I want to go complete geek with a dedicated PC. Thinking of a NVR without a drive, and installing my own.

But, maybe you can make me see the light. I have been wanting to simplify my life a little lately. I am thinking the PC route would be counter to that. Also, I am shooting for the lowest price point while maintaining impressive images.

Welcome, Steve.
I cut my teeth on CP/M and PC DOS 2.0 so you're not totally amongst millenials. Be aware you may have to type in BOLD when speaking to member @looney2ns , though...when he got into computers a pencil and paper was a word processor, the eraser was the delete key! :highfive:
