There's a lot of work getting a nice neat CCTV installation, isn't there !

A good few hours today spent relocating my main router and putting in the Cat6 cable for the secondary router that will act as a repeater for wifi -- I kinda thought that if I was going to all this trouble of installing a Blue Iris system I may as well have the internet install the way I want it.

So, I've relocated the Master router from the corner of the lounge to a more open location, not blocked by the TV and a lot higher - the wifi signal has improved considerably

I've acquired a second router (same make & model as the first) that I can set up as a repeater, but also will act as a 4-port 1 Gig switch at the opposite side of our home & also on the secondary level

And connecting them both, through 5 walls & 3 ceilings is 22 mtrs of freshly terminated & tested Cat 6 cable

This should give full mesh wifi coverage both throughout our home & allow for some of the external cams to be wifi

So I'm a happy bunny

For anyone interested I'm using AVM Fritz!box 3490 routers

Hi BigFoot,

Indeed there can be some good work to be done.

Do feel free to share any experiences and pictures of your work to inspire others.
( I should have done some when I was doing my setup - just was in a major rush due to delinquents - so I skipped documenting the setup )

Good suggestion - I will indeed start to post some pics

It's nothing grand, like some other peoples examples on here but I'm proud of everything not least for its 'neatness'

Making my own cables has been a big step - my OCD absolutely hates excess cabling curled up or messy installs of anything :)
