Hi,
I have updated my NVR DS-7732NI-I4/16P1620171106CCRR128367835WCV
from V3.4.93_V170714 to V4.1.54_V180621 with USB stick
now it comes up requesting password (my old PW does not work, 12345 does not work)
I did a password request thru SADPTool the change was accepted but does not work (Device rejected)
on the monitor login the admin box is filled with unreadable signs. I cant type in admin!
(Login Screen.jpg and Login admin selected.jpg)
used the hikvision TFTPserv.exe to put different firmware on
it does connect - transmitting and does this again and again every second. (TFTPjpg)
it stops after more then an hour and still the same (I used NVR_K51_BL_ML_STD_V3.4.96_17092 and
NVR_K51_BL_ML_STD_V4.1.54_180621 and nothing has changed, can not get in)
What went wrong?
please help me
cheers
Winni

There have been a few posts with similar problems, possibly an incorrectly updated configuration file by the updater.
I don't recall if there was an easy fix.

This is because the firmware file is larger that the 32MB size limit of the Hikvision tftp updater.

There is a 3rd-party version of the updater that you could try, that supports the larger files :

Or finding something with rs232.
Actually, when I think about it, doesn't that model have an RS232 DB9 on the back panel?
If so, that might be easier to use than getting your PC able to run a Python program.
Assuming the PC does not have an RS232 interface, you would need a USB to RS232 (not serial TTL) convertor.
Should be widely available on eBay.
And then a standard tftp server program such as the jounin one - TFTP server

I have not used the 4.x versions of firmware or that specific model of NVR, so extrapolating a bit from what happens with older firmware on other NVRs.

The NVR will boot into a 'psh' restricted shell prompt, which doesn't give any access to any high-level Linux commands.
But the first thing to try would be to use 'help' to see if Hikvision have added any NVR-specific commands that may relate to configuration reset-to-defaults or password reset actions.
Don't be surprised if many of the commands don't actually work or are rejected.
And they are case-sensitive.

If nothing in psh that would help, the next step would be to interrupt the bootloader, usually with Control-U at power up, where usually a firmware update dialogue would appear.
This should allow the install of the same firmware that caused the problem, hopefully with an implicit reset to defaults.

Good luck!

Unreadable characters appear when updating some firmware versions due to the use of the configuration transferred from the old firmware version without changes.
Therefore, the manufacturer recommends upgrading the firmware version sequentially from version to version, without missing releases.
If there is a need to clean the configuration in the new firmware version, the cleaning is done automatically, in this version. The user later needs to restore the settings manually
In the next version, there may be no need to clean up the configuration, so the configuration does not change for the convenience of the user.
So if jumping over one or more releases need to clear the configuration was not made...
In order to insure against this situation, you should forcibly clear the configuration when flashing the Registrar by checking the box in the settings offering to reboot and restore the default settings.
To fix the error associated with the output of unreadable characters, you can flash the Registrar using TFTP server

I found a "how to do" video on
and give it a try as soon as I get the rs232 cable,
it is flash and writing.
Hope it works.
Cheers:highfive:

My report back after I got the serial cable.

First of all it is up and running again with the newest:lol: firmware from eu portal.
I did not follow the video above the secureCRT he used is expensive.
On this website I found:
ipcamtalk.com/threads/hikvision-clearing-passwords-and-or-loading-firmware-via-ttl-serial.28049/
from moped he used Putty and TFTP-server and with the serial cable in the pc and nvr it was a 15min job.

My thanks to all of you
