PTZ Patrol Question...

I have my Outdoor PTZ Camera set on a continual Patrol, viewing 10 preset channels in a matter of minutes. Is it wise to have a pan-tilt-zoom camera always moving? I fear constant movement may damage the camera. However, due to the cold weather (Midwest, USA), I worry keeping it on one preset for too long my cause damage, as well...
Any insight on this matter is greatly appreciated!!!

It just makes no sense to use patrol unless you have a security guard watching this camera. Otherwise the likelyhood of it capturing anything useful is slim to none.

that is irrelevant, what is the use of a camera pointing in random directions if you are not watching it? even if something happens at the exact time its looking at it, it wont dwell on it long enough to be of any use.
