i have a hikvision NVR model DS-7632N-E2/8P that alastairstevenson has hooked me up with a while back with V3.4.90 Build 161008.

That's a China region model - it would need 'hacked to EN firmware' to avoid the 15 beep bootloop that loading the stock EN/ML firmware would result in.
This, as far as I know, is the last stock EN/ML firmware for that model : K41 DS-76xxNI-Ex / DS-77xxNI-Ex NVR firmware
yep your version worked well. if thats it then thats it, will wait until it gets old enough to upgrade and get a newer one with some better cameras one day.
