Help me choose between NVR4104HS-P-4KS2 and NVR4104-P-4KS2

I'm about to get my first 2MP IP camera (IPC-HDBW4231F-AS) and am having a hard time to determine the differences between Dahua NVR4104-P-4KS2 and NVR4104HS-P-4KS2.

I will add at most one more camera, so the mentioned NVRs should be enough to get started.

NVR4104-P-4KS2

NVR4104HS-P-4KS2
https://www.dahuasecurity.com/products/productDetail/8231

Spec wise they seem identical with the only difference being the enclosure size and material (metal vs. plastic).

Is one of the models newer?
Should I be aware of any other differences?
Which of these two would you pick and for what reason?

I found one shop having a note on the 'NVR4104-P-4KS2' model saying 'quieter fan'.
Is there anything to it?

Thanks,
Zeno

Hi @zeno

I highly recommend going with an 8 port model, as imho 4 port NVRs are really not that useful.

If you're just wanting to play around, get a small PoE switch and a used PC ( hopefully you may have one already to start with ).

I had a similar question a week ago: NVR4104-4KS2 versus NVR4104HS-4KS2
(The same NVR just without the POE-ports on the back).

The only difference I could find was the different housing (smaller white, versus bigger black housing) and Dahua moved 1 of the 2 USB ports to the front on the -HS model.
The -HS version seems the be the newer version.

Hardware- and software-wise there seems to be no difference between the two.

Thanks, I'm going to get the HS model then. Looks cleaner and has one USB on the front. Also it's better suited to put other equipment on top of it.

@mat200: I have very few places where I could legally mount a camera, so I'll go with the 4-port version for now. Hopefully I won't regret it. If so, I'll let you know! ;-)
