You'll hear a chime play when the mailbox door is opened. There is a wireless sensor on the mailbox door. When the door is opened a signal is sent to the receiver in our laundry room which plays the chime. This guy was riding his bike up here for 10 minutes last night and checking mailboxes.

Hmm... maybe add a nice solar panel to the top of the mailbox to charge a battery that powers a couple of LED lights when the mailbox is opened...
