Hello, just joined the forum. I'm in the process of upgrading my domestic Dahua system of a couple of HFW4300s a HDW4300s and a HDW4300c running off a NVR5208 to Starlight cameras, IR off and LED PIR controled floodlights.
I thought maybe a couple of IPC HDW5231R-ZEs and a HDBW2831R-ZAS would be a good choice, I'll be grateful for peoples thoughts or suggestions if this would be a decent combination. Thanks

Welcome @cip3

Do take a look at the various reviews by members to get an idea of which cameras you maybe interested in.

I've recently been reviewing some of the very good reviews by:
@looney2ns
@aristrobrat
@wopi82

and others.

Also remember many of us are finding issues with Dome ( internal IR reflection issues ) and Bullet ( spiders ) cameras outdoors and thus like the turret form factor for many setups.

I am not an expert cip3 but I do have several of the HDW5231R-ZE running on a test bench at the moment. Once I get everything set up with BI and OpenVPN I intend to instal the cameras at a remote location. The build quality is excellent as are the features and image quality.

I did a lot of research here before I purchased these cameras and they seem to be the best fit for me, but of course your situation could be very different. If you search the model number on this website you will see some good reviews by looneytunes and others. What swayed me the most was the good reports on night vision which was important to me. There is a smaller cousin (cost wise) of this camera (IPC_HDW4231EM-AS) which comes with various fixed field of view but I wanted the flexibility to be able to adjust and move the cameras as I build out my site. Some people suggest buying one of the HDW5231R-ZE first and using it to determine what fixed field of views might work which is not a bad idea if time allows.

Dahua Starlight Fixed Lens Turret (IPC-HDW4231EM-AS)

Not to sure on the dome camera, but I do know that you need to be careful on glare from the dome. If its getting sunlight this could be an issue. On the plus side the dome is a bit more vandal resistant if thats a potential issue. Also higher meg cameras are not the end answer to every situation as high megapixel generally means less night capability. I purchased a DH-IPC-HFW2831T-ZS which is 8MP but I'm using that to cover another property across the road. I will mount it a bit higher to include more and I am less concerned about night vision for that image given the distance.

But dont take my word and whatever you do read up before you make your decision. As everyone says theres lots of valuable info and help here.

Many thanks to all who replied to this thread, especially CV350 for the informative and detailed post. Have just taken delivery and bench tested a HDW5231R-ZE
and have got to say I am impressed by the low light performance, much better than any other camera that I have at the moment. :wave:
