What UPS do you prefer and why? I’ve been looking as several units but when I start reading reviews of them failing shortly, almost burning houses down or just being glitchy I hold off. Is there anything solid and reliable around or under $200? I intend on powering the bi pc, Mac mini, poe switch, modem and router and maybe a really low powered dc fan.

That is what I am using too they go on sale sometimes and was $150 at walmart a few days ago.

All reviews I have seen on UPS have claims of going up in flames. I never had an issue (knock on wood).

I am unsure if it was a mistake but up for almost a day at $150 with 2 free day shipping:
Good price on APC UPS - Pure Sine Wave

I picked up a few as my UPS I have now are approaching 3.5 years so it was a good time to change.

Maybe wait for prime day to see if sales hit them but I would go with that as it has pure sine wave and gigabit connections.
 
The 1350 is $42 cheaper then the 1500 currently on amazon. Out of the 2 that seems like the best deal right now. I’m just wondering how much of a sacrifice the 1350 would be compared to the 1500.

I just plugged everything in to my kil-a-watt.
It’s hovering around 100-120 watts. That’s for a pc, Mac mini, 8port poe switch, 2 routers, and dc fan.

Use this to figure what you would need:
APC UPS Selector/Calculator - Find the Correct Battery Backup

You probably could do with the 1350 if you don't need as much run-time. My entire house is hooked up to a generator but I just like to have backup just in case and protection with the gigabit connector it has for the outside cable to my modem.

So people actually use the gigabit and coaxial protection on these things? I have cable internet and I was wondering if it would kill some of the transmit frequencies if I used it or the gigabit protection. I’ve been a tech for a telco company for a long time and most of us always bypassed this type of protection because of the problems they always caused.

I have not seen any. What problems have you seen? You can try to see if you have problems.

@fenderman is more experienced with this and maybe he can chime in.

Mostly noise from the power. Occasionally a complete short or open. All of my experience was with rj11 telephone protection many years ago and I eventually just always bypassed them when I came across it. By the time broadband was everywhere I already had decided that they all where likely to cause issues. Not only that but surge protectors just on the power side of devices would likely cause noise on devices that would backfeed back over the phone lines or data circuits. I had many times isolated trouble to a piece of equipment only to figure out later it was because the power side was plugged in to a weakened surge protector. Cheap ones and expensive ones alike. I’ve actually gotten to the point that if I don’t know the status of a protection device I don’t plug our modems into it and just plug in to wall instead. I use Tripplite isobars at my house.

I have never had a problem with the ethernet protection..just make sure it's gigabit some of these units are only 10 100. With a coax it really varies by location, I've never had an issue when protecting the modem coax, but in some locations where the TV signal is weak it will cause issues with pixelation and freezing, this can be resolved by using an amp at the source where it comes into the house...

Ok so I got the APC br1500ms

Now when I used the load calculator it showed I should get around 90min with the load I have right now

The ups says I will get 80 while it has AC power. As soon as I put in to back up mode the minute drop to around 60 and go down steadily.
