I don’t believe the hardware varies between all the different name brands.

How does the LaView support color night vision?
Can you define 'color night vision'? The model does not have a dark fighter sensor so night vision will never be super. With modest ambient light the picture is fine. With a porchlight, streetlight, or IR from a nearby IPC or IR illuminator the image is above average.

I think this is a marketing term for the disabling the switch to b/w in low light conditions. The other apps call this 'Night Vision' with on enabling the auto switch to b/w in low light and off being color always on.

FWIW the toggling to and from b/w to color has worked well enough I have never had to change it.

How does the LaView support color night vision?
I have a porch light that comes on when motion is detected. My LaView uses the IR for night vision but when my porch light turns on it switches to Color Night Vision. It is similar to Ring's Flood Light color night vision. Some people leave a porch light on at night so it is always Color but since it auto switches from black and white to color I just let the porch light motion turn on the light. What is cool is the Doorbell will pickup the motion when someone walks up to the porch from the driveway, so black and white, then when they are on the porch by our front door the porch light comes on and I get a Color version of them, Surprise :)
Hope this helps answer your question.

I was referring to the Sony Starlight sensor, do the others (RCA/EZ) have it? Why wouldn't they advertise it while LaView does?

LaView HD IP ONE Halo Doorbell Security Camera

The ONE Halo is the industry’s first doorbell surveillance camera equipped with a Sony Starlight sensor, allowing you to see color at night. With ambient lighting such as a porch light or street light, the ONE Halo will maintain color image recording and grant you access to crucial details in the footage. The ONE Halo doorbell camera will turn on infrared LEDs in total darkness to produce black-and-white night vision up to 16ft, so that no crime slips under your radar, regardless of the lighting conditions.

I would assume the same, my LaView looks like the RCA in these pictures HSDB2 Video Doorbell Teardown Internal Photos APPENDIX 1 Voxx Accessories .
I took these screenshots from installation videos on youtube. The top camera on the RCA looks different, not only the face plate but also the plastic molding around the camera.

Thank you very much for posting this comparison, this is great info for this Forum topic.

So it looks like the face plates from LaView of EZVIZ may not fit/cover fully/correctly on the RCA but the RCA face plates look like they should work/cover the LaView/EZVIZ. It is almost like RCA cut/trimmed or had them cut/trim down the lens section for their custom plates.

Thoughts anyone? Please correct me if my statement above does not sound correct.

Ford has some close up pictures of RCA plates, he might share here for comparison.

I am certainly leaning towards there being different hardware versions.
I have an early RCA version as per the screenshot from the video posted above and the area behind the camera runs very hot. I've tried all combinations of 12, 16 and 24VAC, with and without chime, resistor and power kit in every permutation. The camera just runs very hot (120-140F), no other issues with it, but I am concerned it will have a limited life. When I raised this issue in one of the threads about this doorbell others had a similar issue but some had no such issue. It would be interesting to correlate high operating temp vs camera surround shape?

I am going to check my LaView with a heat gun, I too noticed it running hot when I installed it. We all know what heat does to electronics, so I too am concerned with longevity, also living down South in high temps and high humidity does not help.
Thank you for sharing your testing of different load currents, I am running a 16V/10VAC and was wondering the same thing if by going to a 30VAC it would help on the heat issue.

I have a favor/request to ask. Does anyone have the extra angled wedge they are willing to part with? I will pay shipping and any reasonable price. In calling LaView, they do not sell any accessories for the Doorbell.
In my Doorbell install I used the wedge to angle the Doorbell off the adjacent wall of our door. While we can see most our covered porch, the angle is not enough to see the whole thing. My hope is to add another wedge or have to make one.

Also if anyone with a RCA HSDB2A Doorbell with extra face plates are willing to part with a black or gray one, I will do the same, cover shipping and any reasonable price. I plan on painting my white one, but if the RCA one fits, we will be good.

THANK YOU
I can confirm the RCA plate fits the the La View (Thanks Ford!). There is an indention behind the RCA plate that accommodates the round La View lens. The pill shape opening of the RCA fits flush against the La View lens.

I am using a 60 degree mount I originally bought for my Nest Hello on Amazon. I was able to mount the La View on it with no issues.

Thank you, thank you for sharing this info. Ford is helping me out too with an extra wedge and face plate. Great guy Mr. Ford is...

You know I actually saw this awhile back too, before I got my LaView. Now I know it will work.
So did the holes on the mount match the LaView, same thread size too? Or did you have to drill new hole(s) and use bolt/nuts?

Thanks...

I only have one bolt going through the La View plate to the mount supplemented with foam double sided tape. It has been mounted this way for about 5 months with no issues. I am sure you could make an adapter plate if you wanted something a little more secure. I just took the lazy way out.

So I finally got my temperature readings, looks like I got the same range (120-140F ). I checked this morning with outside temp 80F with feels like temp 87F, the highest temp on the Doorbell was 120F. This afternoon (around 3:30-4pm), outside temp 99F with feels like temp 107F, Doorbell got to 139F with the hottest spot near the camera lens and lowest by Doorbell button. Brick temp 101F, direct sun never makes it into our porch.
Pictures include red dot from laser of heat gun.

So LaView list Operating conditions up to 140F in their SpecSheet. If it gets 140F here we are moving :)

Most of my IPCs run way hotter than I would like to see, this doorbell runs just as hot (at least every one I have installed has). That being said, I have not experienced heat related failures on these or all the IPCs.

This is the nature of the beast. I figure who knows more about what is a safe operating temperature, the engineers that designed and tested it or me? I stopped worrring about the high temperatures years ago.

David L, if you take a reading on the back, it should be higher still.

Thank you, yeah I remember thinking that probably using bolt/nuts would allow someone to unscrew the nut in the back and take the Doorbell, then I thought of using my tap and die set to eliminate the nuts, then I realized I was over thinking it (as I do many things), if someone wanted our Doorbells they would just rip it off of our walls :)

Thanks, yeah I am once again over thinking things :) I have had no problems even with these "eggs fry on my driveway" heat days :)

Any good tug on mine would probably pull the plastic anchors out of the brick. I have burnt adobe, not known for its hardness.

Does anyone know if the Laview's built-in chime would be good enough to get by with? I don't currently have a mechanical chime.
