Hi there, first time poster here.

i have a ds-2cd2345fwd-i cam producing some sort of distortion/correcting all over the video for a few seconds and then the video gets sharp again.
im not sure how to call it if there's a name for it so i attached a video.
This happens when recording in h264+, not in h264. all other settings like DNR and WDR have no effect at all at the distortion. at 56 sec. i switched to WDR on.

Is this normal for h264+ recordings? does anyone recognize this? am i missing something? or did i receive a faulty unit?

In Dahua's IPC, there is a "auto-focus" option on the cameras. Can you verify if yours have the same option and if it eliminates these symptoms?
 
i have been playing for hours with the cams settings but did not came across anything like auto-focus, or focus at all. this camera is with a fixed lens.
did you have the same artifacts before on a different cam?
 
please provide screen shots of your camera settings.

the strange thing is, i have one ds-2cd2385fwd-i running the same settings (except for resolution and bitrate obviously) and this 8mp cam is working perfectly fine.
 
First of, I'd put "Videostandard" on PAL (you and I are on 50Hz PAL), but that should not matter with the symptoms you show.

What happens if you "disable" Beeldverbetering (digitale ruisverbetering) from Normal to something less active? What happens if you lower the Witbalans settings?

Under Video, you have with Videoopname H.264 - do you have H.265 option too? Are the symptoms then gone?

If you say the other cam does not have it, is that cam exposed to identical light conditions?
 
H265 seems much better, will do some more testing and report back.

The 4mp cam is mounted in the spot where the 8mp came from. Both are now pointed at the same wall and same distance. I switched the cams a few times already but it did not help for the 4mp cam.

hi there, i can confirm the problem is no longer present while using h265.
at first the recordings made using the h265 codec showed the residual part (grey screen) and sometimes a half green screen, until i discovered the nvr changed the bitrates instantly to the highest bitrate whenever i changed a setting in the nvr.
im using a synology nvr1218, so the max bitrate setting only shows in the camera gui.
when using the recommended bitrate settings (or at least close to it), the video's recorded do not show any artefacts anymore and i will check the recordings the next few days to make sure.

ah of course now the grey residual part of the image is showing up in the recordings, right after my last post.

this is what the video looks like when there is sudden motion. before the motion video looks fine. any clue on what could be causing this? i have the framerate and i-frame both set to 10 and bitrate as recommended by hikvision.
this only happens to the 8mp camera now. the 4mp cam recorded normal at this exact moment.
 
Have you tried swapping the camera into a different physical location (ie trying it on a new network cable)
 
i have smoothing set to zero on my cameras, SVC off. I use H.264 and the plus option is off.

How is the camera connected to the system (NVR,BI) ?
How are you viewing the cameras ? remotely, a different system or directly on the NVR BI?
Does the camera data path run through your router ?

No problem, as I speak Hollands too :p

Like @SouthernYankee hinted, it might be good to describe how you are connected (eg NVR-BI-IPC), how you playback (I recognize Windows Media Player?) etc.
1) what happens if you "live feed" directly on the camera?
2) what happens if you "playback" a recording from the camera?
3) what happens if you "playback" a recording from the NVR?
--> something bothers me in your story: you changed some settings, "thought" it went right, but on your follow-up post, something else brook it again. You mentioned that your NVR pushed maxed out bandwidth on the stream. So maybe your NVR is changing/"fixing" things behind your back. Hence my suggestion to hook up your pc directly to the Camera live feed for "debugging" purposes. If that is bad too, your wiring might be a possible root cause.
Possible debugging is then to connect your pc in direct to your cam (providing local power) or connecting it with a POE switch with 1.5m cable to enable "in-wall" cable issues. If that also is "bad", your cam might be bad.

But all depends!

@Will.I.Am i did swap the camera's but it did not make any difference. the recording on h264 where fine except for the pulsating effect on the 4mp IPC. the grey/green video artifacts only started in h265. i think i found the cause now lol

@SouthernYankee @catcamstar my setup was as follows: IPC > POE switch > NVR this was the setup when using h264 encoding and produced the pulsating effect, exacly as described in the link @SouthernYankee posted, so thanks for that!
Later, i was setting up a VPN tunnel on my router AND on my NVR to compare and test internet/crypto speeds. While testing i unplugged the NVR from the switch and plugged the NVR directly in the router to do some tests.
I completely forgot to plug the NVR back in the switch so my setup when i switched to h265 was as follows: IPC > POE switch > router > NVR .... so i think this was causing a bandwith issue haha. at this point, live view directly on the IPC did not show artifacts but it hang at the very first frame displayed when viewing the main stream. sub and 3rd streams where fine.

My current setup is IPC > POE switch > NVR
I watch live view and playback remote via app over VPN, local on a wifi connected laptop, and local on a connected monitor.
The video's i played on my laptop in windows media player where downloaded from the nvr to my laptop.
I do not use Blue Iris.

The recordings and liveview stream are pretty stable now so i am happy with that, and i learned to always double check the cables in the future!
