Something that comes up quit often is the subject of door checkers. This is part of the reason a lot of folks install cameras.
Lock your forking doors!! Seriously!
I could NOT find the online link to this story, this is in the Destin, Fl area.
The stats are staggering and boggles my mind why so many don't lock their forking doors!

Yup, on occasion we see that in my neighborhood. Crime of opportunity...they walk through the community and pull on door handles. Last time through they helped themselves to the contents of at least two cars in the commuity. The dude was at the edge of my driveway, took one step toward the house then turned away and went to the house across the street. Because I don't have enough lighting my 2MP could not see enough detail (40 ft away). If he had walked up the driveway to pull on the girlfriend's door handle I would have had him dead to rights.

So.. some insight to this.. and it does piss me off when I tell those close to me to "lock the car door".. and I get the reply "oh the car does that automatically for me when I walk away from it"...

Damn skippy, ain't worth a crap in the glove box when you need it. Mine is on my ankle or inside the waste band of my jeans or shorts. Ready at a moments notice, having retired from law enforcement I've seen a LOT and choose not to be a statistic.

I put my cc on a magnet attached to the underside of the steering column for immediate access in the vehicle.

So lots of recent vehicle thefts in "safe" neighborhoods around me too lately. One guy lost his Ferrari...most all of them were not only unlocked but with keyfob IN the car!
IMO that should invalidate your insurance coverage and replacement cost should be out of their pocket.

We used to have car door checkers come through the neighborhood often enough. However in the last 9 months or so we have had only one and that was a couple of weeks ago. They always avoid my cars with all the cameras around. In fact it may be because of the cameras that the "incidences" have dropped off to near zero.

One counter argument for locking your doors is if the perp sees something worth taking they will probably just knock out a car window. Lost a $6 secondhand purse (empty) that way, cost $100 window repair.

Lots of people in our neighborhood park in their driveways because their garages are full of chit. I park both cars in the garage since the busted window. Turns out perps like "fancy" neighborhoods because they can score better than their really shitty neighborhoods.

Great find, Looney. Thanks for the post.
FWIW, the PDF of that Sept. 2019 issue is here.

Mine only leaves my person and goes in the cars hidden bolted down gun vault if I have to stop at a prohibited location. Schools etc.
Same here.

My podiatrist rebuilds Lugers, is NRA member....I put it in my removed shoes. My chiropractor doesn't care, it goes in my removed NRA hat with my keys, wallet and glasses before I get on "the rack."

My CC comes off when I go to VA clinic, courthouse for tag renewal or pay property tax, sheriff's office to renew CC permit and the pawn shop. Those places are all posted prohibiting firearms. And I almost forgot...when I shower.

Agree with garages full of chit AKA chit I THINK I need lol. It’s turning into some expensive chit. Garage in our new house is just shy of 1,200 sq ft. Maybe I’ll get my Tundra and the wife’s Highlander in it LMAO.

There is a solution to that....as stated in the article, don't leave anything a tweaker might think is valuable in the car.
