At least with buy it now prices, I'm not seeing anything reasonable until I get down to the i7-6700 compared to the price of building a new i7-9700 or i9-9900 especially considering the improvement in MP/s. Many have graphics cards upping the price but useless to me, and many are only 8gb ram when I'm wanting the 16gb so may have to scrap the ram completely to get it up there.

My other concern is that many are some slimline factor of case that I doubt I can get the hard drives into.

I see the i7-6700 falls into the 500-800 MP/s list. Can it handle up to the 800 line well?

Are the k versions advantages over non k if you aren't actively overclocking them?

The i7-6700 computers look to be about $350 but I'd need to upgrade ram and add extra hard drives for storage. Or...

i9-9900K build - System Builder - $1090
i7-9700 build - System Builder - $878

9700 to 9700k adds ~$75 and 9900k down to 9900 is $100 cheaper.

Am I missing anything? I'll probably need another hard drive or two for storage. Install windows through USB so no need for cd drive.

Is it worth it to spend the extra $112/212 to get the 9900/9900k? I'm putting in 4 x 4MP cameras and 4 x 2MP cameras to start, planning at 15 fps (360MP/s). If these cameras work out looking at 4 more 4MP (240MP/s) for sure and possibly 2 more 2MP(60MP/s).

I had calculated the current setup and immediate expansion, just looking for headroom to expand and wondering cost/performance for stepping up a couple of levels.

I'm looking at buy now because it's urgent to get done asap. Having problems going on and need to get them up and running.

This i7-6700 is $350 Lenovo ThinkStation P310 i7-6700 3.40GHz 8GB RAM 180GB SSD Windows 10 Pro | eBay

Both of those only have 8GB of ram and looking for at least 16GB plus still getting extra hard drives.

Was just wondering performance between the 6700 to 9700 or 9900 for the price.

Thanks for the update helper link, i'd been trying to find it again and failed, forgot what it was called. From that it looks like the 6700 is doing better than the 9700.

6700 running 1548MP/s with 23% cpu usage blue iris which is a lot higher MP/s listed than the Choosing Hardware page lists for it
9700 running 964.1 MP/s with 34% cpu usage blue iris

9900 running 2218.6 MP/s with 8% cpu usage blue iris

you can buy i5-8500 systems which are faster and newer than the i7-6700 systems for about 400.
You will want windows pro.
A 6700 system cannot handle 1548 at 23, unless limit decoding is selected - which is a bad idea in most cases. See wiki. Compare apples to apples.
The 9700 is significantly faster than the 6700, there was a huge jump from the 6th gen to the 8th+ gen.

I didn't know the pro version was needed, thanks.

I can't link to the specific machine in the Blue Iris Update list. That website doesn't list whether limit decoding is on or not, don't know how to compare apples to apples in these cases. The 8500's on there are running small loads, 282MP/s is the highest and using 15% cpu

Are the k versions better even if you aren't overclocking them?

I'm looking to be able to expand to 1000 - 1500 MP/s so I guess I should go ahead and get the 9900 to be safe then. Just wondering if I needed the extra money for the 9900k plus the z310 board I believe it is

Thanks
