Thought I'd take a look at these drives on Ebay while in there and noticed a lot of Used drives also.
I am getting the impression that these are drives that folks have taken out of old DVR's and have to wonder if they would still be okay to use for surveillance.
Assuming that these used ones will have a few years on them already, I would ask opinions on if they would be worth it since they run about half the price.
What kind of a life should a person expect from a brand NEW purple drive ?

skip the used HDDs imho, go with a new one when it is on sale.

was just thinking that we are encouraged to buy old computers to run as our servers and this is a part that is easily changed out.
But I am really curious as to where these likely come from and old DVR's are a likely good bet.
I've had regular hard drives spinning 24/7 that have lasted me 10+ years easily.

When I updated my NAS I went from 5 4tb drives to 10tb. I gave away the 4's.
