I was planning on installing Bullet/Turret cameras outside - since these are the recommended ones for exterior walls, however, no hikvision Easy IP 3.0 bullet/turret camera has audio interface to connect a mic. I find it really odd that only Domes have the audio/alarm interface. Is there a workaround for Bullet/Turret cameras?

That means i need to run separate wiring for alarms, wrt audio, there is option for only one mic, so only one side of the house will have audio recording.

The dahua Starlight turrets have built-in mics..also note the varifocal hik turret 3.0 has a mic in

I've got the 3MP varifocal turret DS-2CD2H35FWD-IS and have a Hikvision mic connected. The generic Hik instructions show you can use either a 3.5mm mono or stereo plug to connect the mic to the camera- note that only a 3.5mm stereo plug will work (with both the L&R channels shorted together for the audio, earth for the tip.) Don't try a mono plug, it won't work.
The mic is not waterproof but it's working fine in a sheltered outdoor location. It's got a lot better audio quality and sensitivity than the built in mic on my Dahua Starlight cam.

a question, the connected microphone with the connected 3.5 mm stereo plug, is this a passive microphone? Because its a “ line out” and not a “ mic out “ so the microphone need a power supply, or did you get it work with a passive microphone also?

The Hikvision one I used/ mentioned requires 12VDC power to operate. It's an excellent mic and worth the added installation inconvenience of requiring 12V power to operate.
I already had a small 12V off grid solar system, so I've powered the mic from that (directly off the battery, so not a regulated 12V) and haven't had any problems.
I have the DS-2CD2H85FWD-IZS and have tried everything and I mean everything to get this camera to pass audio, both passive and powered. I have tried all the codecs and still same. It is an USA version camera that came with FW 5.60 that I have upgraded to 5.63 and finally 5.64 all with same results. Using IE browser that will play audio/video from others. All settings are set to video/audio and the camera GUI has been set as stated above. I have also tried 3 different mike and mike/speaker combinations. Nothing.

Do you mean the coded audio via the network cable to pass the combined video/ audio signal back to the NVR? Yes, using only the network cable; I've got the same NVR too.
Are you using a mono or stereo 3.5mm jack plug? Refer to my earlier posts as one will work and the other won't. Hikvision's instructions say you can use either, but it wouldn't work for me using a mono plug (IIRC.)
I just read the earlier post in this thread (doing search brought up the newest posts first so I missed initially). Okay I went back with the only thing I had available as of now is a Y stereo plug and then tried that with my mono patch cord, in every combination, using the Y and no luck. My speaker/mike has a combination of 3 RCA plugs, one audio in, one audio out and 12vdc power. So I can do stereo plug at the camera but lose when connecting downstream.
And yes I was referring to cat5/6 cable. I even tried using the HDMI cable as that is how I can pick up my Lorex system audio. My monitor has a earphone jack on it so when plug in I can hear the Lorex system. Tried the same on the Hikvision and no luck.

You'll probably need to buy a 3.5mm stereo plug and custom wire it as per my above quote- short the L+R channels together and the tip is the earth. (Or cut up your Y stereo adapter, strip back the cables and wire as mentioned.)
If that doesn't work let me know and I'll also check the codec I'm using. BTW are you using a powered mic? I couldn't get it to work with a passive mic.
Hiya guys. The mic/speaker combo is 12vdc powered. BUT I have no luck with trying to pass audio to/fro using the camera. I used my PC linein and software and was able, using the PCM codec, to produce a clear and responsive message so it is not the combo speaker/mic. I tried all the cable combination I could come up with and finally I got it to work by leaving 3/8" of the 3.5mm mono barrel plug out of the jack. Once inserted all the way in it does short out the signal. After many convesation with BHPhoto and Hikvision support I finally sent the camera back for a refund. They need to fix this problem but I got a feeling that they have a lot of cameras out with that same physical jacks/plugs. Never got to try the two way speaker as I ran out of fingers.
I did take a video of the problem and sent it to them but no response yet.
Let see. Bought the 7608 NVR and it took 2 weeks to get my HDD. After 3 weeks of dropping frames and cut outs with my 1st camera- a DS-2CD2785G0-IZS - I had to send that one back for repairs. I tried to reset it (using reset button) and it wasn't there. Took the camera apart and it was wedged in the electronics. Still waiting for that return. BTW this one came from straight from Nikvision as BHPhoto did not have it stock. I even took pictures of the packaging when it arrived as it was beat all to hell.
And to top it off, my HDD (4G Purple) crapped out after only 6 weeks. Initializing/format, it hangs up at 90%. Waiting on a RMA from Western Digital.
SO ever really got to configure/try off this system because of all the problems but in the week it worked correctly, I believe this system will work.

I got to thinking about this and if may appear that they have they plus/minus (or positive/negative) wired backwards. When talking to Hikvisionearlier , I asked why there was no ground connection via cat5/6 cabling ( I had checked continuity) to the NVR and he said to prevent ground loops. Unfortunately I have no cameras to connect to prove this either way. It would actually required to remove the connection base on the camera and switch the wiring or modify a 3.5mm cable to achieve same.
You need a 3.5mm stereo plug, as mentioned earlier. A mono plug won't work even though hikvision say in their instructions you can use either. That's also quite likely why you found it worked with the plug partially inserted.
Nope tried every plug- stereo, mono, combination splitters/Y's etc.- and cabling I had available. None worked except the partial insertion.

Have you tried the above? You'll need to buy a 3.5mm stereo plug, using your Y lead as per the video doesn't achieve the same thing.
