I wish I new of this place before I bought my camera. I have a few Amcrest IP3M-943 installed. They have been working with shinobiCCTV, but the firmware is dated. Its a mostly a small problem, but the built in web interface is not compatible with modern browsers.

My understanding is that Dahua makes the amcrest cameras. Is it possible to update my IP3M-943 cam to dahua firmware?

welcome @moosefist

"... the built in web interface is not compatible with modern browsers .."

This is a typical issue. Updated browsers are more secure, and thus a lot of what developers used in the past for apps is now broken.

iirc this is covered in a post in the wiki notes

Look at Palemoon browser to access the cameras.

I tried that .bin via the standard upgrade option in the webui but the camera after transferring the file just reboots the camera and is back at amcrest firmware. i tried getting tftp to work but must have done something wrong because it would never connect to my tftpd server per the instructions. do all amcrest models use tftp at boot? idk.

I extracted some of the img files on the amcrest fw and found this device list:

"Devices" : [
[ "SD6XXX", "1.00" ],
[ "IPC-HX3XXX", "1.00" ],
[ "IPC-HX4XXX", "1.00" ],
[ "IPC-HX5XXX", "1.00" ],
[ "IPC-HX8XXX", "1.00" ]
],

I also tried reasearching dahua models with matching components, but ultimately stopped once I decided to move.

Sony IMX322
Ambarella S2Lm
2.8mm fixed lens
aperture of F2.0
100° viewing angle
12 IR LED
98 feet of night vision range
2048x1536 resolution at 20fps

I did some experimenting and got some results:

It seems the Duhua version of the IP3M-943 is the DH-IPC-HFW1320S-W. The Dahua firmware is dated 2017-08-31, while the Amcrest latest firmware is dated 2017-07-31.

I was able to flash the Dahua firmware by modifying the bin file.

Here are the steps:
  1. Download the latest Amcrest firmware, filename "Amcrest_IPC-ACK-Themis_Eng_N_AMCREST_V2.400.AC02.15.R.20170731.bin".
  2. Download the latest Dahua firmware, filename "DH_IPC-Consumer-Zi-Themis_EngSpn_N_V2.400.0000000.16.R.20170831.bin".
  3. Open both firmwares using 7-ZIp.
  4. Copy the "Install" file from the root of the Amcrest firmware file into the Dahua firmware file.
  5. Save the Dahua firmware file and flash it using the Web UI on the Amcrest Camera.
So far, the camera is still shows up as a IP3M-943S, but the UI is now Dahua. It still needs a plugin to view the live feed, but I do feel the Dahua UI feels faster than the Amcrest one.

Thank you!!! That is very helpful to know! The only sad thing is there isn't an updated firmware which doesn't need the plugin for the live feed.

Did you experiment with any other firmwares? Like this one:
