Again gotta look at the time frame when the deaths occurred. Florida has had the benefit of a significantly delayed impact compared to new york, and has benefitted not only from all of the lessons learned, but also an improved supply chain.

(source is from wikipedia. i sorted by both states and then used snagit to merge the images into one for a side by side.)

Also knowingly using aged data to make a political statement about the here and now makes posting the meme even worse. my original comparison to the liberal facebook groups only intensifies.

Not my monkeys not my circus, just pointing out that the meme was valid back a few months ago and that while I understand the argument, the fact is that with 6 months measured across the country, NY stands at #1 in deaths by a good margin. Floriduh, even resisted the whole shutdown/mask thing more intensely than most.

BTW that data from NY showing deaths at approx 25,000 differs from all other official sources which show 32000-33,000 currently.

IIRC it the whole nursing home fiasco had a lot to do with the high NY death rate. I seem to recall something like 10,000+ deaths being attributed to this...

This is just wrong. Not a single person in the US was denied access to a ventilator. Not a single one. Not a single hospital was at capacity. New York actually had a large surplus. Remember the big ship that wasn't even used?

My take on it is that Gov DeSantis is not an idiot who puts Covid patients in with vulnerable, elderly nursing home patients like another Gov did. One deserves to be a Governor, the other isn't qualified to mop the floors at those nursing homes.
i cant find any data specific to nursing homes (though florida does report "group" homes, those arent all elder care), but the websites i linked earlier do provide a breakdown by age group.

For senior citizens (65+ for Florida, and 60+ for NY sadly both states don't use the same exact groupings)

State Senior deaths Total Deaths % of overall deaths
Florida 10,375 12,600 82%
New York 21, 638 25,384 85%

based on the data Desantis does not appear to have a significantly better track record in keeping senior citizens alive compared to cuomo. Also Florida is still having ongoing double digit deaths; so it is possible that they may catch up to NY at some point. Though i really hope that isnt the case and all states not only flatten the curve, but outright crush it.

i used state provided data for NY because i used state provided data for florida. Ideally i would of used CDC data, or from another Federal gov't resource, but if the numbers weren't favorable to florida in the comparison; it would been called "fake news".

as far as nursing homes go again i couldn't find any real data on that, but i do know that those facilities are essentially a covid tinder box waiting to happen. One of the biggest outbreaks here in VA was a nursing home that hid the outbreak.

New York is not supplying data regarding nursing homes. When they do, the veracity of that data will be extremely questionable or unbelievable.

Incidentally, those numbers seem to indicate that FL has about half the rate of NY, which is pretty significant I would think. Also consider the higher population concentration of seniors in FL versus NY which actually makes that percentage lower still.

Every single source I can find- 8 of them, show Florida numbers very close to what I showed. None, not 1 shows NY at 25K except NY state numbers. They all show 32-33K

Now it could be that the only state numbers off by that much on all national/medical institution reporting are NY .... but me thinks it’s because NY is NOT reporting nursing home numbers and it’s increasingly looking like Cuomo doesn’t want those numbers public.

that's possible, and i am not discounting that what you are inferring couldn't be true.

Though i do wonder where the other sources are getting their numbers from for NY if not from NY itself. Generally speaking the Federal agencies are reliant on state provided data, so if NY isnt the one supplying it; where exactly is it coming from? Not trying to sound like there is a conspiracy or anything, just genuinely curious where the information is derived from; to hopefully sort out the exact reason for the numerical differences.

Reverse the race then there'd be national outrage but in this case not so much. In fact, no mention of race at all by the media.

Exactly right. New York is hiding those numbers for political purposes.

Why is there a surge of covid bullshit in this thread? I thought that this thread was for political bashing.
I guess the libs are lonely hiding in the covid thread and they are coming out of the basement once a week.

Unfortunately it’s become politicized as well.

At this point I think some would politicize vanilla ice cream as being a Trump/conservative/Republican plot against humanity..
Precisely. Covid-19 has become highly politicized. That is why I do not post very often in the Pandemic thread.
