The Hikvision looks superb and much better in the overall FOV than the Dahua and it's only when you come onto the patio area the Hikvision degrades but would be nice to have a refocussed Hikvision to test.
Both cams have a FULL potential if the focus issues on both can be sorted out and better QC from both manufacturers.

Also do we know what Price the Dahua is going to sell for.

They come that way from the factory. As for the Hikvision they are sometimes focused even further out, and that is why we take them apart to manually adjust them. I do not think you can adjust the focus on these units from the keyboard. I don't have the Dahua so I cannot say for sure.
i tried it yesterday with one 5442 ... you can dial in some parameters to get the "hik"-look ... oversharpened, darker, more contrast ... got the best results with HLC ;)
took some snapshots with only backlight change you can play around with gamma / exposure to get it lighter .. i think there are some software settings in the hik firmware like wildcat mention why it looks more focused on lowlight...

but video on post #103 looks OOF .. sad

I agree, and that has always been the case between these two cameras. I guess it depends on where you mount the camera as to what your preference will be. Where I will be mounting the camera I need focus close in and that is where I will put the Dahua camera when it becomes available. Here is a picture from one of my Hikvision units in 4mm. It seems fairly well focused up close and this one came like this out of the box. What I like about these 4K cameras is the detail you get at a distance. I also attached a night view with my security lights helping things out. No light from the camera itself.

@Parley Not sure what you are trying to achieve here because your focus looks spot on now on the Hikvision so why change to Dahua? If the Hikvision is focussed correct which it is in your case then I see it as a better camera than the Dahua unless it is the 3.6mm vs 4mm slightly wider view.

Here is where the Dahua camera will go and as you can see I need to focus close in. Yes, I can take the Hikvision apart and dial the focus in, but I want to see how the Dahua works. From Wildcat_1 's testing the night image seems to be working pretty good on the Dahua. Here is where the Dahua would go. It covers the West side of my house, and there will only be the "available" light. I will not be turning on the camera light. So you can see I need a good image a couple of feet from the camera.

Both cameras should give basically the same image based on their hardware (software/firmware be damned). The tradeoff for better night vision is a smaller focal range. If you want these f1.0, 1/1.2" sensor cameras to focus up close you need to go as wide as possible (2.8mm) and then manually adjust the focus closer if that's still not enough (which will ruin infinity focus but that's not always needed).

I was hoping someone in the Hikvision thread would post a comparison between 2.8mm and 4mm close focus but haven't got any takers yet. I asked Andy if I could open a 4mm that I ordered to test but he said it would be unreturnable afterward so I'm still debating on keeping it vs just returning it for the 2.8mm (better close focus, sacrifice DORI range).

Now I've completed a ton of videos on this one and the comparisons are over I'm going to focus the thread back to my main topic which is the review of this Dahua 4K camera. So whats next ? Over the next few days and into next week I'll post a wrap up on my final thoughts of this camera after using it for about a month. I will add 1 more video from the camera once I get the final FW which will include a check in of Object Monitoring as it makes its return along with sharing my thoughts on how it works and if I feel it will be a useful rule addition or not. Based on my expectations for FW availability to test, the wrap will probably come first and then I will follow up with a check in on that FW.

Almost forgot, I got an update on availability for those interested, looks to be end of July (so moved up from August). Still awaiting final price confirmation but will share as soon as I hear a concrete one.

I have to say that this has to have been on of the best and most comprehensive reviews that I have seen on an IP camera. I know that you have put a lot of man hours into this test. THANK YOU Wildcat-1 for all of your hard work.

At night the Dahua looks better except close up when it blows the skin out and loses facial / skin detail.

Out of the two, overall the Dahua has better potential but I feel it needs a couple of issues addressing in the firmware:

1. Daylight Focal Point as pointed out in my original post to address DOF and soft facial pic close to the camera

2. At night, some illuminator or gain adjustment when the subject gets close to the camera to stop skin being overblown and restore the lost skin details so as to improve recognition

With those tweaks, I believe the Dahua is a winner.

Without, I'd say it's a bit of a draw with pluses and minuses in both camps.

Hikvision colorvu series are working great too, so hik fans and dahua fans now have the good 4K full color cams now :)
