i tried it yesterday with one 5442 ... you can dial in some parameters to get the "hik"-look ... oversharpened, darker, more contrast ... got the best results with HLCThey come that way from the factory. As for the Hikvision they are sometimes focused even further out, and that is why we take them apart to manually adjust them. I do not think you can adjust the focus on these units from the keyboard. I don't have the Dahua so I cannot say for sure.
I agree, and that has always been the case between these two cameras. I guess it depends on where you mount the camera as to what your preference will be. Where I will be mounting the camera I need focus close in and that is where I will put the Dahua camera when it becomes available. Here is a picture from one of my Hikvision units in 4mm. It seems fairly well focused up close and this one came like this out of the box. What I like about these 4K cameras is the detail you get at a distance. I also attached a night view with my security lights helping things out. No light from the camera itself. The Hikvision looks superb and much better in the overall FOV than the Dahua and it's only when you come onto the patio area the Hikvision degrades but would be nice to have a refocussed Hikvision to test.
Both cams have a FULL potential if the focus issues on both can be sorted out and better QC from both manufacturers.
Also do we know what Price the Dahua is going to sell for.
Thanks so much for the kind words @Parley, much appreciated !I have to say that this has to have been on of the best and most comprehensive reviews that I have seen on an IP camera. I know that you have put a lot of man hours into this test. THANK YOU Wildcat-1 for all of your hard work.

Will be higher than hikvision colorvu, i think later price will going down a little after bulk production. I will have exactly price later. What price is this going to be Andy?
Hikvision colorvu series are working great too, so hik fans and dahua fans now have the good 4K full color cams nowAt night the Dahua looks better except close up when it blows the skin out and loses facial / skin detail.
Out of the two, overall the Dahua has better potential but I feel it needs a couple of issues addressing in the firmware:
1. Daylight Focal Point as pointed out in my original post to address DOF and soft facial pic close to the camera
2. At night, some illuminator or gain adjustment to stop skin being overblown and restore the lost skin details so as to improve recognition
With those tweaks, I believe the Dahua is a winner.
Without, I'd say it's a bit of a draw with pluses and minuses in both camps.
So when will this camera be posted on your website? Will be higher than hikvision colorvu, i think later price will going down a little after bulk production. I will have exactly price later.
