As i know that doorbell use IMOU APP platform.. A worse app compare to the DMSS.
That AD410 is a 4mp and this new dahua is 5mp which would mean it's an entirely different doorbell camera right? Do you have any idea when this will be available to buy?

Hi Dan, Let's wait the review at early Dec. we invite @looney2ns will make some further testing, he is busy these days.
I think will need some update on the fw after we figure out some bugs after this testing, i think can be ready to sell at least later Dec or Jan. 2022.

People who don't want POE are the target for Ring etc. and I doubt Dahua is going to make much market penetration into that sector of the consumer market as it's clearly tailored to lower quality than professional cameras sold at high prices with simple setup. Serious CCTV users who are the typical users of Dahua / Hik, are more likely to be enthusiasts or professionals or companies and so want POE for quality and care more about camera / Picture quality that consumers over ease of setup.

Ultimately , no reason why it couldn't have both POE and wireless apart from it bumps up cost.
Yet, ring is the only game in the general market that has POE. Yeah the villa door stations exist.

I would suggest to everyone not buying any dahua or hikvision doorbell at the moment.. hard to say that, because i was always a fan of dahua and also hikvision and i still am.
There are serious problems with their apps which seems unfixable and i guess directly connected to the ban of their products.

If you have a doorbell which relies on an app, heck you want to get a notification if someone press the button.
i have both one cheap dahua and an expensive hikvision system. lastly they do not forward most of the calls.

i wrote hikvision so many emails about that, they dont care. or better they cant do anything ! hikconnect is already banned from playstore (for whatever reason)... and it seems that push notifications on android devices are directly connected with availablility in the playstore. they made so many changes and it is getting worse from one version to another.

this is also somehow true for Dahuas DMSS. Just look here in the forum. There are MANY new threads the last weeks "push notifications do not work anymore" ............
Dahua made a huge change in their DMSS app on playstore.. now you need to have an account to get any notifications. it seems that they prepare to get removed from playstore, which will be the case someday soon.
DMSS have many bugs, dahua will never fix them, they dont even try. there are bugs which are not fixed in years. they abandoned gDMSS plus, which was OK and replaced it DMSS, which has more bugs than ever.
Its always one step forward and two back with any new update.
It is acceptable if some functions like playback does not work properly , but push notifications from a doorbell ? the whole product is useless without it. you can get a better camera for your frontdoor.

its nice that andy always try to help, but these problems are out of his hand and dahua/hikvison are lying always "we will fix it with the next update" ... no they dont.

sure you can try to use an own sip server, but after many tests and hours of wasted time, its not the same as their apps. you will lose some functions which makes the whole product useless.

As long as this can be used with home assistant similar to the amcrest ad410 then the app is not necessary unless you want 2 way talking. If this works with home assistant I would get this just for the camera quality, and rtsp, no more nest subscription fees.

yes no one needs 2 way talking for a smart doorbell .. :banghead::banghead:

for what reason need a doorbell anyway ? just use a camera with alarm in and connect a button to it.

just setup another server with home assistant and everything will be fine.. wow

who is talking about subscription fees and nest ?

Well I brought it up because most people if they have doorbells are probably using a subscription doorbell to have a good app. Rather than an app that might get you hacked because the camera shouldn't have access to the internet?

Many people don't even use their Dahua or hikvision p2p services they lock them down making it irrelevant how bad the app is especially when home assistant can allow a more secure way to access the camera and blue iris can be used for recording and frigate can be used for people detection.

If someone switches from a subscription fee device to one without, why the heck would this person use HA instead of the doorbell app ?
He doesnt care about anything at first, so why should he now ? He will only see "free" and after the 10th missed call he will abandon the product and go back.

There are devices i.e. IOT devices which needs internet connection to work.
The doorbell/internet topic was discussed many times. Its like using amazon products and complain about that they need internet to work.

But..
Until the last update of DMSS (which i already wrote above and somewhere else) it was possible to use the app over vpn. Now they force you to use an account and their amazon cloud.

You are tricked by an echo chamber. MANY people are using p2p services/port forwarding and dont care about. Just go to shodan and search for all port forwarded cameras. there are millions. You only see people HERE which are not, but the most does. There are many installers who set p2p up for customers. Mostly all reolink/arlo whatever people are using it.

I dont see your point. You are telling me that it is OK that a company like hikvision or dahua claim functions (get notifications) which does not work, then accept the fact... and just use another device with home assistant installed on, lose 2way audio, but heck who needs that anyway? Are we already at that point ? If something which is the main function of a device does not work, the device should be avoided.

The sad about all is... All was working fine/better until mid/end last year. Then they started to screw anything.
I see their problem with the US gov.
Huawei is dealing with it since years. All their devices without google have also many problems. Samsung is really happy about it.

yes who cares.
its always the same. working for a few days/weeks then stops working, a few weeks later it might work again .. and so on. sometimes its just random with the same version, sometimes an update fix it. its just not reliable. this goes since mid/end 2020.
