Hi, just acquired my computer im going to use for my camera system. My office is replacing all the desktops and i got a dell 3050 with an I5-7500, 256gb SSD and 2x4gb 2133 mhz for free. so score. already ordered a 4tb WD purple drive for storage. now to start on the camera search.

I will be starting with a single camera facing out the front of the house on the drive. currently have a Nest doorbell camera.

I am getting my internet upgraded by a new ISP. they are currently wrapping up the trunkline installation in my neighborhood for fiber. I have currently have fiber from suddenlink at 400mbs down and 20mbs up. my new ISP for the same price will be 2 gig down and 2 gig up. they will be installing a "free router" but i haven't seen what they are actually giving me. i will likely replace with a new multi-gig asus GT-AX6000. New internet will should be installed sometime this month. i will probably need to buy 2 of those asus routers plus a new mult-gig switch for my gaming pc and my design workstation that have 2.5gig rj45 ports. so my budget for cameras will be limited for the next couple months. but i plan on gettting 3-4 more cameras after the 1st one is up and running.

also my daughter is in the process of getting a snake this summer so i will probably install a webcam looking at the snake enclosure so we can see it when we are away from the house.

Get a second Dell for free and steal the ram outta that mutha. .....The Dell sounds like it'll be fine, Maybe bump the ram later when you start getting into more cams and more playback.

Keep one for spare parts. LOL You'd be fine with 85 down and 5 up for ISP as far as Cam streams outside the house. That's what my service is on Xfinity. Although a Verizon store made me an offer to drop 10$ off 2 lines and add 5g gateway for $35/mo net $15 a mo internet @ 200 down/ 18 up. So I'm running that on a trial basis at the moment.

oh my internet was not decided around cam stuff....honestly 400mbs is fine, but suddenlink won't lower my price from 100.00 bucks a month....but if i was a new customer i could get 1 gig for life at 50.00 bucks...pissses me the F off so im taking the out getting 2 gig/up/down for 90.00 now
