ok here are some video links. Nothing here says caught in the act. I don't have under car cameras. but we have the guy going in and out by that car followed by a pissed off resident calling me 3 hours later with a loud exhaust.
Additionally, he has been visiting our lot over the last couple of months. And I got the same plate # then, although it wasn't covered with smokey lens plate cover.

Flintstone61, quick question. Why did you delete the videos? As for an addition to the bait-car discussion, have you thought about adding the CatStrap type device, where motion sets off an ear-piercing sound, just to watch them react on your upcoming camera placements?

Sorry about that @bigbadw...I don't want any condo residents with my gmail address to stumble on them. esp board members, I had some really cheesy other old videos too. I think I cleaned house.
I'm also removing the camera overlays that said the address or the condo name.
Just in case bad guys google "IP cameras " and find this place as well.
We've had some residents receive what looks like to be " drug transactions" in the back, and I gave that video to the board, at a different gmail address that I promised to delete as well.....

Yes, I would think so.
If this 'artist' was smart... this would not be a single cable going every which way to prevent cutting once, and simply unwrapping. Some might move on at the sight of it, those with sawz-all will struggle with the cables. I don't think it will add too much time to those who show-up with the right tools.

It's about the amount of time you can run a loud ass saw under a car in plain sight and not get confronted, or shot or stabbed. or kicked in the nuts. :) It takes about 15-20 seconds to cut thru one pipe probably. from what ive seen on video.
The cable wiggles back and forth and you cant get a good bite on it. so it becomes an effort in futility. that and the blade will start jumping and then it'll hit the car and make shit loads of noise. it's a deal breaker unless you have a remote location and have 20 minutes to chop away at the shit.

My Friends daughter has a 2006-8 Pilot that has had the C C chopped. He had a shop install a device like that, but His cabling was run a little differently. A bit more length wise runs, but each vehicle has it unique challenges.

Exactly! The front and rear of the cables are wrapped around the frame or other unmovable parts. The red clamps on each end "pinch" and secure the cable so that "unraveling it" is much, much harder than you think. It definitely could be bypassed if the thief had the time, but that is the point. Make it tougher and less attractive to someone. Just like any type of lock. I have one of these on my E450, but used a plain piece of sheet metal on my 4Runner.

I was coming home from a trip yesterday, pulling out of the Petro in San Antonio and noticed an automotive shop right on the feeder just before the I-10 Eastbound entrance ramp. In their window they had painted, in BIG lettering, "We Buy Catalytic Converters".

From Google Maps:

Well that just pisses me off. They know that anyone bringing them there has stolen them.

That's correct, the Sawzall would struggle...all they need to do is add one tool to their arsenal, a disc grinder with "cutoff" wheel. It will zip through that cable in about 5 seconds, then just unlace the cable out of the way.
Here's the setup right here M18 Cordless 4-1/2" Cut-off/Grinder - Tool Only | Milwaukee Tool

I doubt you'd need a saw or to make noise. A small pair of boltcutters would probably go straight through that cable like cutting string unless there's something trick about it we don't know.

To open the jaws of the bolt cutter and make all the cuts, you need room. i.e. jack the car up. ( more equipment) ( more time) Cabling is not as clean to cut thru as a Padlock, These guys get a converter and run in 60 seconds or less. They're not in it for the long haul. If it's really secluded and they have ample time to work they might jack one up, it's hard to find secluded spots. It's easier to move to an easy target than to fuck around with all the bullshit. My friend John Z. had it put on her daughters Pilot after they got hers last fall....in a shady part of St. Paul where her apartment is and has street parking. Hasnt had a problem after that.
It's a deterrent. it's says, " yeah Hi mothertrucker, go find an easier victim."

Amazing...this should have been done years ago:

"In March, the B.C. government required registered metal dealers to report each catalytic converter transaction, including information about the seller, to police on the day of sale, as thefts across the province soared."
Pawn shops have been under scrutiny for eons and most cities have them under control, requiring a photocopy of a photo ID with address of the person pawning. In the meantime, start locking up a few scrap dealers for receiving stolen property....dry up the market, decrease the thefts.

Did I mention I detest thieves?
