Thank goodness no more wifi :p

Hey guys

VTO2311R-WP will be replace the wifi version, and the wifi version is end of life. Because the VTO2311R-WP is wifi and POE optional at same time.
Thanks for your attention.

Thanks to @sebastiantombs for steering me in the right direction on that modification. He has a modification to allow it to ring the chime in the house that I will be adding to my list of things to try.
Did you happen to try whatever modification you mentioned above to get the house chime working? Would you mind elaborating what you did in order to accomplish this?

No I have not tried it yet, other things have got in the way and with it hooked as alerts to our phones that are always close, it hasn't had the need to push up the priority list.

I do believe that @sebastiantombs has documented somewhere here how he modified a doorbell and he can probably find his post faster than I can LOL.

Gotcha, yeah that makes sense. Thanks for the quick reply! Also, since you used DMSS without internet access. I am assuming your phone would have to be on your local network (or VPN) in order to initiate a call with the person at the front door?

@sebastiantombs if you wouldn't mind finding your older post with the modified doorbell documentation, I would greatly appreciate it.

Yes that is correct. It sucks that the doorbell won't initiate a call to DMSS if you don't give it internet access, but like I said, since BI alerts me someone is there, that is better anyway because nobody rings the doorbell anyway. They knock on the door because I think they know many consumer doorbells won't record unless the button is pushed (or you can't see it unless you pay a subscription). That was how my previous doorbell worked.

Is the VTO actually initiating a call with your DMSS app, or just pushing a notification? I can get mine to do a push notification but would love something more intrusive on my phone. Hitting the notification icon takes longer than I'd like

If I give the VTO internet access, then yes when someone pushes the button, it will blare intrusively on my phone LOL and initiate the call. A couple second lag as it bounces thru their servers.

While self initiating if someone is at the door takes a little longer, I prefer that approach to keep the camera isolated off the internet, plus nobody actually pushes the button anymore and they simply knock. And with the way I have my cameras situated, I get a BI pushover app before someone actually knocks on the door.

Are you on Android? I have the DMSS app pretty much wide open from a notifications, battery, and permissions standpoint and it won't do anything beyond the push notification. I did just see that the DMSS app didn't have Phone permissions, so I granted them to test if that's it. I know it's a lot to ask but would you be willing to share your DMSS app settings and App info from Android? even just screenshot(s) would help. I'm liking everything about this VTO but need that blaring intrusiveness since we can't see the front entryway from where our living room and kitchen areas are. Thanks again

Yep I am on Android 12. And yeah make sure you give permission to pretty much everything. It needs camera and storage permission as well. I had to go into global notifications and app notifications as well.

Are you on the DMSS made by Hangzhou CE-soft Technology Co., Ltd.? That made all the difference in the world.

See if that works. If it doesn't I will reconfigure mine to internet access to get those screenshots. I was able to knock a lot of those permission off when I decided not to use it that way.

revisiting this thread... was wanting to see if anyone knows if it is possible to change the system messages that come on whenever the doorbell is rung and whenever you hang up the voice call? Thanks...

Do you mean the audible voice messages from the VTO itself?

How are you guysstill getting on with this doorbell? I'm planning to get rid of my ring doorbell, that crap doesn't trigger the wireless chimes from ring, sometimes the app doesn't ring our phones, proper crap!

I'm on the lookout for a POE doorbell, and as I'm getting out of Unifi protect system, I guess this is the only alternative now?

I'm still happy with it... it has its drawbacks but overall I like it. I dont have a wireless chime paired to it... not sure if you can but I thought I had read somewhere someone had done it... I use it with an extra old Ipnad I keep in the living room so we know when someone rings the bell and can answer from there if we like. The only thing I havent figured out how to do is to make it stop ringing if I answer on my phone instead from another room... I have it added to Blue Iris as well with no problem so I also get alerts even if they dont ring the bell...which is funny cause we get people selling crap door to door constantly and they will purposely not ring the bell and knock on the door instead hoping we come to the door in person instead of talking on the doorbell...but I speak to them on it instead anways lol

From what I've been researching, there is no chime option for this doorbell which is a bit let down. So, the doorbell keeps ringing or the mobile app keeps ringing on another device once you answer it? I guess that would not work with multiple people using their mobile phones logged into it then?

I've just received the Dahua version of this, and it works ok on iPhone, but on Samsung S22 ultra and my wife's S21, with DMSS with all push notifications turned on to the max, i just get a singular notification into the notification bar. no pop ups, no calling, no constant vibrating or ringing. Once i open the notification, or the app, it will then ring, but otherwise it's no more notification than a singular IVS trigger from my CCTV cameras. Has anyone else got it working on a Samsung?

Thanks,

Did you disable the power saving feature of Android for that app? I had several apps mixing notifications on my Pixel 6, on Android 12 and 13, I always had to force some apps to not use power saving mode. Microsoft authenticator for example is another app that sometimes doesn't push notifications if Android pushed it into sleep, so I had to disable that feature.
