Hi all,

I'm having some serious issues factory resetting / trying to access the admin account for this client.

The model is DHI-NVR5208-8P-4KS2

I've contacted Dahua Australia but was told they are unable to help due to it being a 'grey import' into Australia.

The client has no idea what the admin password is, as the previous owners have passed.

There is no factory reset i can find anywhere
  • I can however access the '888888' user but doesn't allow me to factory reset just basic defaults
  • no hard reset button on the motherboard
  • button battery looks like its solder in place
  • I tried all the default admin passwords but nothing

I'm at the end of my ideas.

Any and all help will be appreciated. Thanks

That's used to keep the clock running when the device is powered off, not to store the configuration.

no hard reset button on the motherboard
Not to contradict your statement for this spectific model - but these can be very small and easily missed.
Can you attach hi-res images of the main board?

The user manual appears to have a procedure for password reset via the HDMI/VGA interface 'forgot password' button that involves verification via serial number and other attributes.
Extract :
If you did not set the linked email address, the system prompts you to enter an email
address. Enter the email address and then click Next. Then the system will notify you of
data collection required for resetting password.

Appreciate the quick response.

I've attached a hi-res photo, i hope this is hopefully.. i can take more if needed.

It appears there is no email attached to the system and i have tried the password recovery.
I downloaded the 'dmss' app > Went into the tool manager > password manager > scanned the QR code it displays > then.... this is where i hit a problem.
The QR code displayed by the system scans and says "invalid qr code"

Stuck again.

Thanks again for any and all help.

Bummer - that seemed promising.

That's a good image, nice and clear.
I don't see a reset button either.

Is that a DB9 RS232 connector on the back panel?
If so, do you have an standard RS232 interface, or a USB to RS232 convertor and a null modem cable that you could hook up to the NVR?

This may not be the exact same model - but some years ago I fixed up a Dahua NVR with hwid HWID=NVR5208_SINGLE for a forum member.
It had the wrong firmware installed, so various bootloader variables were wrong, giving a bootloop.

But looking at my notes - the device had a DB9 RS232 interface that could access the serial console.
And on interrupting the bootloader there was a command to erase the configuration -
eracfg - eracfg - erase config partition
Looking at the extracts I'd made - the admin passwords were held in hashed form, not in plaintext.
So it would be worth checking via the serial console if the device also has the eracfg command.
If so - that should reset back to factory defaults.

Hey all,

Thanks for all the help. I finally got on to someone at Dahua who were able to give me a code to do a password reset after all.

I got a few more installs coming up, finger crossed all goes smooth.

Really, appreciate all the feedback and help.

Cheers

can across this post. just curious I am trouble shooting my old dahua nvr 5216 16p. your above post speaks of this boot loop. I replaced the power supply and the nvr turned on and the case fan turned off and on every second or 2 and the little red light on the board blinks in sequence with the fan off and on. I don't get anything on the monitor. I was ready to trash the old nvr until I saw this post referencing boot loop. Is there any hope for figuring out if I can pinpoint problem or just trash it. I already have the new nvr up and running but if I can salvage the old one.
