managed to catch a scum bag in my garden last night. check the footage as a sample of real life night quality.

it may look a tad washy on the video which i think is down to youtube processing on the video, as it is clear and crisp locally.

This is taken in pure total darkness with now other lighting source other than the built in infra red.

notice the scarf obscuring the face. The shovel the guy takes was used to smash a neighbours window and gain entry.

The Police were drooling over the shots because even though the face is obscure they can use it against the possible suspect for height, build and posture as evidence.

I even got a nice comment about my setup and that it was possible one of the best pictures he'd ever seen from a CCTV he had seen in person.

Haha toy camera indeed.
Give itself a good representation of its capabilities against the like of the hiks and dahuas.
If it was my hik cam in the back you wouldn't see much at all

That's pretty good detail and low noise for a night time video with no additional illumination.
What a pity he/she wore a mask - it would have been good to see the facial detail.
Looks like the legware needs a good wash.

Looks like he's been out a while lurking in the gardens by the state of him.
Mind it's nice to know he had the self preservation to adjust his pants for the camera

The weirdest thing was at the exact time he was jumping off the shed I was actually about to go out to put some rubbish out but the Mrs came home so I came back in!!
That would have been fun

I'm not a cop, but I play one on the interwebs. :) I'd say male (way he lands off the fence) ectomorph, reasonably athletic (easy scale and over fence), about 5-8 to 5-10, about 160-180, approx. 18-23 YO, appears like he's been here before, as he was looking to find something, not just rummaging, had designs on neighbor, so likely knew they were absent. Oh, and you and I have a differing opinion on what constitutes a garden! :)

You should put one of those height tape measures on the side of your shed...like they have on the inside of the 7-11 doors!

Hindsight! LOL!
I based my estimate on standard fence height, and where his eye level was (still @2:18) when he tossed the tool over. He was just beginning to raise his heels, though.

You didn't catch anything @eeves1985...what you did was managed to record a video clip of the perpetrator. Had you caught him he wouldn't have had the opportunity to do crime to your neighbor. Let me help you out, because I'm thinking you need some...Here's what you do...

Sting a line of florescent white paint filled balloons down the center of your garden, say one every four feet. Then, the next time you're alerted that a criminal is in your garden (are not such alerts what such cameras a used for?) step out with a 12 gauge shotgun and let loose a round of bird-shot though that line of balloons. Furthermore I suggest that -- immediately preceding the trigger pull -- you yell something like "SO LONG MUTHAFUQA!!!"

I believe the outcome will achieve five (5) results...

1) The criminal will wet his pants

2) The criminal will never return to your block again

3) The criminal will be marked with florescent white paint make identification by the authorities a snap

4) The police will come to your house to arrest you for firing your shotgun in a residential neighborhood

5) However...wisely thinking ahead...you will have already posted the entire video to YouTube and (the next day) you are proclaimed a local hero who is "single-handedly taking back the streets" and your residence is swaped by TV news crews and you're invited onto The Today Show where you get to sit next to that complete babe WhatsHerName.

No no. No need for thanks...jus' trying to help a brother get to the next step.

Completely agree the so called garden is a right state!!

A mixture of bad weather and neglect over the dlighly colder months and you get that as a result!

Mind you if you saw the rest of the gardens in comparison it looks good!

They aren't 100% default settings
I turned the infra red option up 1 on the far and down 1 on the near option as I had a issue with focus with the ir at default setting.

the picture settings are default across the board apart from gain which I turned down a bit and also 2d and 3d noise reduction was turned down a tad.
I think the defaults were set to 100 which isn't the best setting as you can see it working on live view which I didn't like so I turned it down a tad.

I can't compare to the 4mp hiks as I don't own any I have 3 of the 3mp 3032 models and to be perfectly honest they look rubbish in comparison to the Huisun.
Even during the day the Huisun seems sharper

I have seen this setting referenced a number of times but at a loss as to where I find it.
