interesting ranch gate lock system .. multiple padlocks, while locked and in place prevents the gate from being opened. Rotate to the padlock you have a key for, and remove the padlock and you can open the gate.

of course now you do have a weakest link here .. as some padlocks are easier than others to open ( hint shims .. )

Wow. Usually I just see gates held shut with a chain, and multiple padlocks are used as links in the chain such that any one of them can be opened to release the chain. But I guess if for some reason you need 30 different padlocks, this is a cleaner option!

I've never seen that type of system myself, but it looks pretty neat. It certainly prevents someone from putting their lock back on "wrong" and preventing others from accessing the gate which can happen if you expect people to connect the locks together like links of the chain. The only downside is that you have a lock in every hole. Either you have to use dummy locks to fill in the "gaps" or you can't expand and add more locks later if for some reason you needed to give more people access.

Of course as TonyR says, locks really only keep out honest people. A battery powered cut off wheel could remove a lock in less than a minute.
