Hmmm... I get the sentiment but at ~150 yards with that quality scope, the glass that I see next to them, and two guys working together to confirm, you can pretty much be sure that it's a gun and somebody with a gun in that location and posture is a confirmed threat. I'm taking that shot.

That is a valid take on what may have gone through the sniper's head and why he hesitated. But, questions remain as at least one person posted in that thread. How did the guy get on the roof? That is a failure. Furthermore, he crawled into position. There should have been some overwatch that immediately identified him moving into position.
The point remains, that this was a huge failure or was planned.
Either it's amateur hour now with the Secret Service and FBI or........they let it happen on purpose.
A screw up in event planning, surveillance and coverage or again....intentional.

The news reports are now stating a police officer was on the roof with the shooter and backed off after he was threatened by the shooter who then started firing away. The police officer's name and picture need to be released immediately and then the person needs to be fired for starts.

Iirc 1.5-2 second reaction time for a concealed carry to ready is considered very good.
The key issue here .. is that roof should have been watched over .. and clearly if it had been, the threat could have been neutralized before he got over the crest of the roof.

Watched over or put a guy there. They were clearly spread out very thin. Undermanned because the head of Homeland Security purportedly denied their request for more personnel. This is like JFK all over again where some of his security detail were purposely removed from their duty only minutes before the start of the motorcade.
In crisis like this, we should be hearing from the head of The Agencies but it's all crickets.
