A director of public works in one place I worked for 12 years had his secretary edit the lexicon/dictionary used to spell-check documents she typed up for him, including press releases, etc. This was circa '93 and it may have been WordStar. Anyway, this was done so that if she accidentally typed "pubic works" instead of "public works" it would alert her. Apparently she had typed "pubic works" on a letter more than once , he signed it and it went out to someone.....to say that he was embarrassed and somewhat pissed is an understatement...this much she shared with me.
