I just finished replacing a seventh IPC-T5442T-ZEB camera today (July 31, 2024) with the IPC-T54IR-ZEB-S3 model. That animal detection feature is top-notch and the sole reason I upgraded those seven cameras. :thumb:

Someone figured out a way to sell more cameras. :)

That animal detection is the reason I didn't just buy a few more used 5442's for my installation. I'm going from a BNC system to IP so I'm going to do it all at once, once I get all the cameras. I have 3 more turrets and 2 alley cams to get and then I can install them. Lucky for me I used cat5 wire when I installed the BNC ones years ago so I just need to crimp the connectors on and maybe change a couple of boxes.
I got the ir54 and the ir58 and I think the ir54 is the right mix of quality and price.

January 2025:

Dahua release a new WizMind-S4 5xxx-S4 series cams with a new, bigger and much improved 1/1.2" image sensor, improved day & night video image quality, hybrid dual light (IR & white one) working up to 50m, dual mic with noise canceling and speaker with built-in siren for Active Deference features and Dahua latest feature: Human Detect AI - an intelligent AI-based people classification system that will distinguish you and your family from a screwed-up neighbor, a nasty postman, weird voyeurs, a drunk passer-by and a suspicious perps & burglars.

What are all you people doing with the old cameras that are piling up?
Mine aren't piling up. No one will ever accuse me of having boxes and closets and drawers full of stuff I don't use. So, with that said, I must state that with the exception of two backup/test cameras, all of mine are located in the West Texas Regional Disposal Facility buried underneath cat litter and dog poop. I just sent three more off this morning. o_O

Now you went and killed some of Andy's near term sales ;). Looks to me like the current situation of different cameras having different strengths and features is getting consolidated into a single camera having them all. Technology marching on.

Just wish they would get a 5442 Z12E version. Really would like that 60mm lens for LPR.

Since my daughter and two grandkids moved in, I now have an additional car in the driveway. This blocks my LPR-W cam's view of the street. So now I have to find a place for a replacement. Would love a 5442 Z12E for that! The old 5241 Z12E is good, but it is getting old and the lens cover is messed up to the point that some of the night caps are not very good.

1/1.8" 4mpx sensor, the same as in 5442...
10-50mm focal length, F1.33 max aperture..
Full ANPR and vehicle brand/type/color detection done on cam..

5231s then 5442s, then 4K-X/T, then 5442S3s
Technology leaps (with regards to image quality at night) seem to occur about every 18 months …
Sony in last 2 years released a bunch of new Starvis 2 image sensors..
Much upgraded to original ones, have better night performance..
Almost all premium car dash brands released a new cams based on that sensor (and using them as main selling point) but I didn't see any cctv cam release based on Starvis 2.

Also saw 2 different SOC / ISP manufacturers, which released a new AI-ISP SOCs.
Image signal processors where some classic ISP algorithms (noise reduction, HDR/WDR, demosaic) were replaced with trained AI networks..
They claim even 10x better performance at night with the same image sensors..

So there is better tech available on market - simply it needs to be used in real products :)
Plus my joke a few posts higher about Dahua 2025 5xxx-S4 release - where I simply joined features from many different cameras into one..

Chinese CCTV OEM's have one big plus. They iterate products very fast.
If some new lens/sensor/ISP/SOC tech is available on market (especially Chinese one) with good price / performance ratio - they will use them in a new products..

That is not what I mean. I don't want all of that other stuff on a cam larger than the 5241 Z12E. Give me a 5442 Z4E cam with the Z12E lens of the 5241 Z12E.

This is not possible in the same size as 5442...
When You increases sensor size (from 1/2.8" on 5241 to 1/1.8" on 5442 so 5442 have 55% bigger image sensor in diameter) then all optic path (diameter/width of all lenses, distances between lenses) must be also 55% bigger.. And sometimes even bigger due requirements about lens quality..

This is way Full Frame DSLR cameras requires that big lenses.. and tele lens for them are like this (this is 80-400mm comparable to lenses in ITC431).

People on this forum require bigger and bigger image sensor sizes.. and longer zoom options for them. But all forget that this require a lot more of space due optics law...

The Z12E goes to 60mm and these much larger cameras stop at 50mm. For some of us that extra 10mm is the difference between getting plates or not.

I don't think many of us would care if the z12e was a bit larger if it had the better sensor...

I've ordered two IPC-T54IR-ZE-S3 cameras to replace the two IPC-T5442T-ZE ones I still have in use; they'll be delivered and installed on August 7, 2024. Shortly all sixteen of my cameras will be operating on Web Version 5 software. It didn't take me too long to adapt to the Web Version 5 software and I do find it much improved over the prior version. :thumb:

I think I've said I really, really, and more really love the animal detection feature. :):cool:
