Yep... would not update on mine either.

I don't know what sluggish is because I've never had any other PTZ, other than the 45x which I need to get it mounted in the proper location before getting the best use of it.

I mean when you push a button to make the camera move, it takes a moment before it starts moving, and then it is slow when it starts before the speed ramps up. This, combined with video delay that is inherent to all IP cameras, makes it extra difficult to get it pointed the way you want.

It mainly affects panning while zoomed out wide. If I send the camera LEFT for 500 milliseconds it will only pan about 5 degrees. If I double the time to 1 full second, it may move 50 degrees or more because I will have given the motors time to overcome inertia and get it moving faster. I suspect they just undersized the motors and power supply on this thing and it would perform better if it was an 802.3bt (PoE++ / 60w) device.

I may try hooking up the 24v AC power brick it came with to see if that makes a difference but I really doubt it will.

Absolutely!!! I know exactly what you mean now. All three of mine are that way. Push the button, nothing happens, then it takes off and goes to far. I try to hold it down for less time, but no way to gauge where it will go. If I hold it down until it starts moving, it inevitably goes too far every time, without fail. Aggravating for sure. This happens on my $2K+ 45X as well.

Ah, well it wasn't nearly so bad on the $400 4mp 25x I had in this spot yesterday :) It started and stopped motion much quicker.

It is easier to get along with using relative PTZ controls (a.k.a. 3d positioning), that is the thing where it lets you draw a rectangle around something and it pans, tilts, and zooms to try to point at the spot you chose.

I'm still using the original version of the firmware 2.820.00000013.1.R Build Date 2022-0923.

I thought it was not that bad at all compared to an old Amcrest wifi ptz I had that was difficult to control. But I usually use the preset plus 3D positioning to draw rectangle to move around.

Smooth, yes. But it is a little slow to start panning. There are a few spots early in that video where it is shown.

Setting PTZ speed higher actually makes this more noticeable because after the slow start it does get very fast.

The 5A and 8C PTZ is bit heavier than the cheap 4MP model, so they design it as a slower start compare to the light ptz.
So when click the pan, it needs more time to carry out the order. You can test the autotracking and see how is working.

By the way the video we tested is with nvr, not through the blue IRIS, you can test with the smartpss Lite, webpage sometimes have a little delay compare to the software

I dont know if it applies to you guys but with the 4-5 PTZ's I manage, including 2 bigger 6 series, for some reason they are more responsive for me using SmartPSS/Lite than even the camera GUI

This! I have the same experience with this ptz as well.

I make a testing on this ptz, bit smoothly and no stuck or delay. Just each click need to stay 0.5 seconds.


I also make a keep clicking way, you see the ptz still can move as click, so it move a little.
