Criminal spy camera inside Logitech mouse

Dear all

I use a Logitech M500S advanced corded mouse at work.

I sometimes look at sensitive personal data on my computer monitor at work.

1.
Could a criminal install a spy camera inside the Logitech mouse, that film the monitor?

2.
It would require:
Power source to power the spy camera - battery or a power cord
Transmitter
Space inside the mouse for all the spy camera components
What else?

3.
Is it only the mouse manufacturer / Logitech, that would be able to install a spy camera inside the mouse?
Or could someone with special skills also install a spy camera inside the mouse?

I am not seeking illigal advice.

I am asking these questions, to make sure that it can't happen.

It would likely not have the ability to actually see the screen and if it could it would likely have trouble actually being able to read it.

If so, there are many already known attacks that you want to protect against first.

Re the mouse .. buy a new one from a trusted source. Do not buy from Temu .. or RU

I personally use an old sock. To obscure the possible camera.
Put the mouse in the sock, then your hand to control the mouse, job done, all secure to avoid spying mouse.

No I wouldn't trust that. I can see a spy camera in the USB charger.

You are far more likely to have something installed on your PC that records your screen than you are to have a camera in your mouse recording your screen.

there are tons of windows malware which records everything (keyboard, mouse, screen, files, browser history, passwords) which You do on computer..

The mouse's USB connection to the computer would be the power source.

Likewise, the mouse's existing connection to the computer could be piggybacked for data exfiltration.

Yup there's plenty of room inside a mouse for advanced spy tech. They could even take out the mouse's original guts and put in something smaller to make more room.

What else?

Any sane criminal would just use the mouse as a malicious USB device to install malware. Adding a camera to the mouse would be way more work and way easier to detect.

I would report your concerns to your employers IT department. They own the computer hardware and the network. They are the ones who own the "sensitive personal data", unless your sensitive personal data is pornhub and you are attempting to hide it from IT. Then yes, every piece of hardware you use, including your printer has microscopic cameras built inside, including the ceiling tiles and the light fixtures in the building. Have you ever looked closely at a building sprinkler head for fires? Cameras, baby. I also just saw something about carpet cam. The floor has cameras built into it, looking up.
