The official "WTF" thread

ASU attempting to take private home via eminent domain ..

So I am a glutton for pain, and as proof of that, I watch the Minnesota Twins. I missed almost all of this game, catching the 8th and 9th innings. They were getting smashed 9 to 0, but I thought it would be interesting to see what they act like in that situation. UNREAL. The twins put a guy in that should be banned from the Pitcher's Mound! He was throwing pitches at 50 to 60 mph.... Alex Jackson normally is a catcher or outfielder.

New build .. tons of errors on the framing ..

California to Certify Gay-Owned Businesses for State Contracts, Require Proof | MC Live Clips

This video segment (0:00 - 7:06) features Matt Christiansen discussing a recent scoop reported by Christopher Rufo regarding a new program in California that certifies gay-owned businesses for state contract eligibility (0:00 - 0:44).

Key takeaways:

  • State Contract Goals: The California Public Utilities Commission is implementing a program to award state contracts by setting "goals" for gay-owned businesses, effectively incentivizing vendors to demonstrate their sexual orientation (0:51 - 1:52).
  • Certification Requirements: The state has outlined specific methods to prove "gayness" for the purpose of these contracts. These include providing a letter from an LGBT organization, evidence of media identification, or three reference letters from personal contacts on company letterhead (2:23 - 3:17).
  • Potential for Fraud: Christiansen discusses the potential for misuse, noting that falsely representing a business as gay-owned can lead to criminal charges (up to a year in jail) (3:17 - 3:44). He predicts that companies will likely attempt to bypass the spirit of the program by using "token" gay partners or middlemen to meet the requirements (6:13 - 7:01).
  • Practical Criticisms: The discussion highlights the logistical oddities of the program, such as the case of a transgender individual attempting to qualify as a "lesbian" for business certification (4:06 - 5:20). Ultimately, the hosts argue that these requirements move the state further away from selecting the best product or service at the best price by introducing identity-based bureaucracy (6:39 - 7:06).
