    Security cameras across wifi.

Tony, Thanks for the great info. I do like the idea of wireless bridge. I could also use for gate control. Have another property with an Ubiquiti equipment so that is the route i think i will go.

    Security cameras across wifi.

I need to add a couple cameras remotely from my main house. Distance is approx. 600-800 ft. Really don't want to trench in cable at this point, but maybe in future. Have power at remote location. Should i try exterior wifi access point on house? If so what would the wifi equipment setup look...

Bp2008, Rendering the video stream on the PI makes a lot of sense. I will look into that. Thanks

    Blue Iris UI3

I thought this was mentioned before but can't locate it. I would like to setup a large monitor (tv) to display group of cameras. Was thinking of using raspberry Pi web browser to display UI3. Need it to be remote configured. No keyboard or mouse attached after initial config. Boot into web...

    I like things Virtual.

You will be sorry with wireless setup in performance. Cat6 is easy to run through attic space. Get yourself a fishing rod set and you will save yourself a lot of crawling around in attic. Klein Tools Polymer Fish Rod Set with Glow-in-the-Dark Leaders-SRS56038 - The Home Depot

Securely mount camera to drop ceiling tile?

The simplest method I have used is use an electrical box cover on back side of tile. Then use a safety cable or suspended ceiling wire from box cover to something secure above.

How good are the Dahua NVRs? (vs Blue Iris, etc)

You can build a PC in a IU rack mount case. That' how I have done 2 systems. I have had both Dahua NVR and Blue Iris. I wouldn't give up Blue Iris for the world.

Basically the OpenVPN server is just running on the Synology box. You just have to forward 1 port from the external IP to the Synology box. The wizard within...

    Running BI on a VM...?

I am running 4 axis 4mp cameras and 4 dahua 2mp. All set to record at least 1080p or better. My servers are not all that old, probably oldest is 4 years, Can't remember which series xeon processors they have, but yeah way more energy consumption then desktop. Just needed for other...

    Running BI on a VM...?

4k cams would be nice, can't see the advantage when most shit happens at night. Let me know when the come out with a 4k starlight that the poor guy can afford. I definitely wouldn't go the server/ vm route if I didn't already have them up and running several other vm's . Very power hungry...

    Running BI on a VM...?

What would "real load" be? I would like to experiment. I am not saying its the ideal setup, but just works for me. All ready have hardware just creating heat, so figured I would use it.

    Running BI on a VM...?

I have been running BI virtualized for several years. VMware VM/ Windows 10. I have 8 cameras recording 24/7 at about 13 fps. Not an issue.
