    Cameras on LAN

1st, ALWAYS be sure UPNP is disabled at your router, pretty much every router out there will let you toggle this off, if it won't get one that will. Doing that and only connecting to your home network via a VPN would cover a lot of your bases and put you in decent shape. 2nd, your best option to...

    Good IP Camera storage calculator

Yeah, the challenge here is it's currently 46 heterogeneous cameras and the storage project is budgetary, so they can grow into it. They just gave us a baseline of the specs I included and want to size to that. I found Vivotek's camera planning tool, it's free and really powerful. Handled...

    Good IP Camera storage calculator

What do you guys use for calculating storage capacity requirements? I'm looking at storing the output of 60 cameras, H.264, 20fps, 7/24 recording, 60 days retention, 720p(1MP). This is a storage capacity only situation, I'd love to be able to size it within 10TB of what's needed if at all...

Great example of Dahua Starlight 2MP Verifocal Performance in low light

Hey, all valid. I have a couple rolls of Cat5e, a roll of Cat6, and a couple hundred feet of Cat6A. I have about 100 Cat6A patch cords (Happens when the only work you do outside your home office is in datacenters). Nevertheless I still pull Cat5e to my cams since there's about 0% chance I'll...

Great example of Dahua Starlight 2MP Verifocal Performance in low light

Sorry, just seeing this... First (so I don't forget) why CAT6? An IP camera could never even come close to maxing out a 10/100 link let alone needing 1000Gb. I'd save the cheddar and pull cheap Cat5e to my cams. Yes, I mounted directly to soffit, it's very sturdy IMO, no need for a mounting...

Quick question about IR vs no IR with example pic

First one is IR off porch lights only. Second one is IR on, porch lights still on. IR being on seems to add a lot of haze to the image. Is this typical and if not where should I start looking to hopefully correct it? I was pleasantly surprised (although I shouldn't have been given the...

Dahua SmartPSS and PC-NVR - Valid alternative to using BI, Zone Minder, Milestone, etc?

Same story, I'd kind of forgotten about this issue actually. Might be a great question to ask someone from Dahua at some point. The IVS events absolutely can be configured from within PC-NVR and they do function as far as triggering and performing any "in camera" actions like SMTP or record to...

Advice need on quality of picture from new Camera

Open a dispute, that's the best thing to do. Send them whatever pics where it's the easiest to see it, to me it was obvious in literally every pic so that shouldn't be a problem. If they try to get you to pay return shipping fight that, it's not your fault that they sent you a shit sensor.

Dahua SmartPSS and PC-NVR - Valid alternative to using BI, Zone Minder, Milestone, etc?

Thanks for the advice, once I've got a few more cams I'll give it a deeper dive. Workaround was probably the wrong description as I amm aware it's a feature and also how any application not using many CPU cycles that's storing data is operating. I've never checked out the mobile app, that's...

Advice need on quality of picture from new Camera

Reading you guys confuse each other was spectacular. Thanks for that. Anyway, who gives a fuck if it's flipped or not it's obviously got something wrong with it and the seller should replace it. :) Did you miss out on your buyer protection window?

Dahua SmartPSS and PC-NVR - Valid alternative to using BI, Zone Minder, Milestone, etc?

I've not found anywhere on this site where anyone has really dove off into SmartPSS and PC-NVR as a full solution for IP cam management as opposed to using BI, Milestone, etc. Granted, I'm sure this makes more sense if you're 100% Dahua versus a mixed bag. Since I mention it throughout, I'm...

Cheap POE for outside- n under $100 :)

I'm brand new to the cam game but my background is tech and I'm learning fast. Can't recommend the Dahua Starlight enough, it has fully lived up to the hype for me. The extremely low light and IR only performance is ridiculous. If you are pinching every penny they do offer a non-verifocal...

@hmjgriffon Yeah I know, just rather not. haha Maybe down the road, for now I'll just tweak alerts.

Great example of Dahua Starlight 2MP Verifocal Performance in low light

Yeah, big fan of WDR, I've mine set to 30 which seems perfect in the late afternoon when the setting sun casts a harsh contrast. I like the intrusion zone method that you're using and Ryan suggested. I'm getting a ton of false positives at night from it though... Might have to sort out a...
