Thanks @Edcfish. That's what I ended up doing. Created a simple webpage with the stream embedded as iframe. Then added statcounter code to the page.

Is there any way to integrate a third party webpage monitoring service (I use StatCounter for some of my websites) to monitor IP hits on my BI camera streams (mjpg stream accessed externally using the http://IPaddress/mjpg/CAMNAME/video.mjpg url)?

Thanks for your ideas guys! I run my own webserver, so I used the first suggestion and just placed the PNG file there and pointed BI at it. Works great!

Was able to solve the issue by running BI as a service under my user name, not the system name. The network link to the filename worked fine. (Though interestingly I still couldn't see the mapped network drive ie: "Z:/network" in the list of available drives).
