I have two of these in my barns DS-2CD2332F-I 2.8mm I am looking at this one for under my porch eve. Hikvision DS-2CD2342WD-I 4MP WDR EXIR Turret IP 2.8mm

The 2332 is 102.00 and the 2342 is 119.00 . Which camera is the better choice?

The 2342 is a 4 megapixel (MP) camera as opposed to the 2332 which is a 3MP camera.

The aspect ratio of the 2332 is about 4:3 (like old TVs before HD), whereas the the 2342 will give you a picture about a 16:9 ratio (widescreen, HD).

I am by no means an expert here, but from what I have picked up on these forums, and as the owner of many of these Hik turrets, the sensor on the 2342 is much better at night than on the 2332. Better low light/nighttime picture.
However you might not want either of these cams:
Spend a little more money and get the new DS-2CD2335. From the reports on this forum, it's a 3MP Hik turret cam with much much better low light/nightime ability than either cam you mentioned. Wont cost you that much more either. There is a thread here in this forum with peoples experiences with this new cam. I find myself wanting to pick one of these up as soon as I can.

Best wishes!

Coming from the 4MP 2342 to the new 3MP 2335 I'm finding the optics (or focus) of the 2335 to be very disappointing. I've got 2 x 2335 and 4 x 2342.

So if you're monitoring an area that can be easily illuminated at night by the built in IR I'd suggest going for the 2342. Or spend some money on extra illumination with the 2342.

Edit: BTW check out my post on this page regarding the focus issues DS-2CD2335FWD-I - Hikvision Ultra Low Light 3M camera

Thanks for the info! I believe this is the camera model that was suggested ... Just want to make sure!
Amazon.com : HIKVISION DS-2CD2335-I (2.8mm), 3MP EXIR Turret Outdoor Network Mini Dome Camera, International Version : Camera & Photo

what does the -I or FWD-I mean?
F= Onboard Storage (SD card slot included for local storage on camera)

WD= Wide Dynamic Range

I= Infrared (Light/Illuminator)

There is a post somewhere on this forum that has the data sheets on how to break down the model numbers.
If you are asking about the camera I mentioned (the low light one that triumph202 has experience with).........that camera in the amazon link is not it.
The full part number for the new Hik 3MP low light cam is DS-2CD2335FWD-I.
Aliexpress and ebay are places I have seen them for sale. Those more in the know here may have better sources.

Anyways, best wishes.

Going by some hits on Google that DS-2CD2335-I is not even the same camera as the DS-2CD2335FWD-I (as this one DS-2CD2335FWD-I - Hikvision Ultra Low Light 3M camera )

What sort of conditions will you be using it in? There's a lot of difference between the DS-2CD2342WD-I and the (proper) DS-2CD2335FWD-I - starting with the 3MP giving you a 4:3 aspect ratio on your screen vs the 16:9 of the 4MP (or you may end up with the 3MP squashed and stretched to 16:9 on playback.)

Do you need the low light capabilities of the 2335FWD-I -> are you wanting to see further than the built in IR will cover or do you want to lock them in colour at night? In a barn the IR of the 2342WD-I should be more than adequate- if it isn't you could add more light. I've got a 4mm 2342WD-I out the back of my house and picked up rat activity in the back yard from around 8 metres distance in total darkness at night using it's IR. (Pity the wild fox and neighbour's cat couldn't collect them on the way through my place!)

Did you read that other thread regarding the focus issues that some have experienced with the 2335FWD-I ? The clarity and detail on my four 2CD2342WD-I is a lot better than my two 2CD-2335FWD-I.

Are you sticking with Hikvision cameras for a particular reason (eg. better NVR compatibility)? Dahua have got well specced cameras that are often cheaper with more features.

I rather have clear crisp day picture and give up some night capabilities where i am placing camera.
Location will be under a porch over hang .

I am always up to save if the quality and durable is there! I have had minor issue with the Hiks.
If BI works with it I am will to try.
I run BI with 15TB of storage with I7-4790 ,16gb ram, 4-2032,2-2332,2-Cant say(foscam)
What models of the Dahua are you referring to?

Side note i am looking at the hik 2032 12mm model .. Any other suggestion? The reason for 12mm is want to see what is going on in my parking lot across my creek about 600 ft away.
I have a few 4 and 6mm 2032,

Is that figure of 600 ft distance right and you're only looking at a 12mm lens? That seems a bit small- or is it a large area?

Have a look in the Dahua section, there are a number of varifocal 2MP Starlight models if you want low light capabilities. I've got the IPC-HDW-5231R-Z 2MP with 2.7 to 12mm varifocal. It's very similar to my Hik DS-2CD2335WFD-I, a bit less contrast at night but has the varifocal and onboard microphone over the Hik (plus the lens is clearly focussed across the whole frame.) There's a 7-35mm model as well.

The Dahua camera firmware (going by my limited experience) has a lot more options/ adjustments. More of their cameras seem to feature H265 (if your system can use that codec) than the current Hikvision range, plus a lot have microphones and varifocal lenses for a lot less money.

Yes about 600 ft in depth, I want to stay around the 125 range or under, i was not even looking at varifocal ones .
I was looking at these for dead spot in barn , they seem pretty cheap. DaHua IPC-HDW4431C-A 2.8mm 4MP 58.00-70.00
This one to try on my field Dahua H2.65 H2.64 IPC-HFW4431R-Z 2.8mm ~12mm varifocal 84.00 buck

this one is IPC-HDW5231R-Z is about 170 each. i would have to wait on other additions or just get one!

I did read some are moving away from bullet style, why would this be?
