I bought a new cam and 5.2.5 non-upgradeable 2032 is out of use now. Can I upgrade it? What can I do with it? Thanks.

Why do you need to upgrade it if you don't expose it to the internet?
If I don't expose it to the internet, is it OK to use? If I buy a NVR and pluging it to the NVR, can I reach the NVR via internet and is it still untrustful?

Can I do it with low-knowladge? What I understand: Downgrade it from 5.3.0 to 5.2.5 with the tool in the topic, upgrading it from 5.2.5 to ??? via which upgrade file?
You cant just upgrade it with a firmware file. You have to hex edit the mtdblock files according to the directions in that post. Its quite a learning curve if you never used a hex editor before. I watched a few youtube videos before I attempted it. Also need knowledge with ssh commands etc....

Is this video is right for me?
It's good for showing the way to set up how to extract and re-write the mtdblock6 - but it's the old 'classic mtd hack' which misses out both the 'devType' fix that now allows full updating and the requirement to correct the checksum that's needed by many cameras.
Take a look at the 'full upgrade method' in the attachment here : Hikvision DS-2CD2x32-I (R0) brick-fix tool / full upgrade method / fixup roundup.
And one other check in case the camera originally had the 5.2.8 firmware - extract a copy of mtdblock1 and see what the value is in locations 0x0C and 0x8000C
If they are 0 - change them to 2 and re-write mtdblock1

*edit* And a full set of firmware here DOWNLOAD PORTAL
Don't skip the major intermediate versions.

Cameras DS-2CD2032-I: I have one camera at 5.2.5 build 14201 and 3 at 5.2.0 build 140721. Do I need to bring the 5.2.0 cameras up to 5.2.5 before upgrading them?

Similar to what was asked in post 3: My cameras are not exposed to the internet but I would like to expose my Blue Iris PC someday. In this scenario, BI PC exposed, are the cameras save if not upgraded? I too am nervous about upgrading.

I don't believe so - the trap that I encountered was when the camera was running 5.3.0
In this scenario, BI PC exposed, are the cameras save if not upgraded?
If there is no foothold on the network that would allow access to the cameras to be gained, they will be safe.

Thank you! Reading through the various threads. I may try to upgrade one to see how it goes. :)

Give it a go! just upgrade to 5.3 first in case you messed up. You can always unbrick it back to 5.2.5.

Its what happened to me. I messed up one, but was able to go back and fix it
