Why do you need to upgrade it if you don't expose it to the internet?
You can upgrade it.What can I do with it?
You cant just upgrade it with a firmware file. You have to hex edit the mtdblock files according to the directions in that post. Its quite a learning curve if you never used a hex editor before. I watched a few youtube videos before I attempted it. Also need knowledge with ssh commands etc....Can I do it with low-knowladge? What I understand: Downgrade it from 5.3.0 to 5.2.5 with the tool in the topic, upgrading it from 5.2.5 to ??? via which upgrade file?
That's a good starting point to do the 'enhanced mtd hack' which convert the camera to upgradeable.
Hikvision DS-2CD2x32-I (R0) brick-fix tool / full upgrade method / fixup roundup.
It's not as difficult as it looks - loads of people have done this.
It's good for showing the way to set up how to extract and re-write the mtdblock6 - but it's the old 'classic mtd hack' which misses out both the 'devType' fix that now allows full updating and the requirement to correct the checksum that's needed by many cameras. Is this video is right for me?
I don't believe so - the trap that I encountered was when the camera was running 5.3.0Do I need to bring the 5.2.0 cameras up to 5.2.5 before upgrading them?
If there is no foothold on the network that would allow access to the cameras to be gained, they will be safe.In this scenario, BI PC exposed, are the cameras save if not upgraded?
Give it a go! just upgrade to 5.3 first in case you messed up. You can always unbrick it back to 5.2.5.Thank you! Reading through the various threads. I may try to upgrade one to see how it goes.![]()
