I know the common guidance is away from bullets due to spiderwebs, but would this TrueColor have less issue with that because it lacks the IR? I'm guessing the dome will have the same UV issues of prior dome cameras?
Anyone can tell me how this model is likely to compare to Dahua IPC-HDBW4231F-AS or Dahua IPC-HDW4231EM-ASE ? Possible 6mm option to go with the overview 2MP?
Correct, since many bugs (that spiders eat) are attracted to the IR bulbs, this camera won't have that problem. I've had mine up for several months w/o any webs getting in the way.
Comparing this camera to the other starlight models is a bit tricky. If you have streetlights or other ambient lighting 24/7, the 4239 is pretty amazing. You'll see color detail the others can't capture... nights w/ a full-moon look like daylight. But to capture that, the shutter is running pretty slow which causes a good amount of motion blur. So indeed, as i stated earlier, you'll be able to see that a person was wearing a yellow jacket and blue jeans at 2am. If they were moving, ID'ing their face might be kind of tricky, but if they hold still, you might get enough detail.
The other starlights with IR illumination can actually give you a sharper image at night, but only with a B&W image (ir cut filter disengaged). So you might be able to capture a license plate or detailed facial image w/ an IR starlight at night while this 4239 camera could give you the color information. If you're considering the 4231, you should also probably look at the IPC-HDW2231R-ZS... it's like the HDW5231 but w/o all the smart features, which many people don't need.
