I can't make out the face in the OP's video. External light fixture is highly recommended.
 
I did, its just that these camera manufacturers are pushing the limit in terms of marketing, they make it sound like these cameras are useful without a flood light :facepalm:

Low-lux is great, but placement and setting will still matter regardless. I can see this particular model being useful where there are plenty of street-lights, and no existence of a flood light.

FLIR by Lorex for example markets some of their models as Color Vision to give customers an illusion that they work fine for all types of settings and that IR / external IR is not required.

How do you know?
The model wasn't even properly tested yet and you're already proclaiming it being useless....

When the pictures are posted, then I’ll make a proper assertion at that time

I’m only speculating at this time because the majority of models which contain such keywords and always purport such features but the end result is ultimately dependent on how and where the camera is being mounted

Guys, please.

I made test in extreme low light to show difference between old sensors and new one. This is the best way to show sensitivity.

Of course manufacturers are using marketing key words and bait names to get attention. But professional installers know that every camera, even ultra low light, needs a light source.

This camera will see NOTHING in complete darkness, but this isn't a purpose of it. It is tomshow color image in minimal illustration or some image in b/w.

Take for example city surveillance. There is enough light for this camera to provide color image, because we sensor is more sensitive you can increase shutter speed to get also licence plates, details of people etc. and still have color image.

Casinos, strip clubs, restaurants - you have minimal, romantic lighting, standard camera is working in b/w providing less details, this one will give you color and better detail.

We gonna install those in one project of private lake, because there are thieves that steal fishes from it. Thermal camera is to expensive, but this one will provide info about movement during night. We don't need face, we just need signal that there is someone on lake. We can't use standard IR because area is too big.

Airports, there is light all the time. But with this camera we can increase shutter even further and get even more details.

And so on.
Not all systems are "back yard".
Will this be better that camera with IR for your home surveillance? I doubt it.
Will it better with flood light connected with motion detector - hell yeah.

Camera is a tool. You have to use right tool for given job. That's it :)

To me, it's very impressive how much better this new camera appears to do than the standard Starvis HFW4231 in the example. It would be interesting to see the same cameras compared at various levels of lighting. Many locations have some constant light from street lights, building exterior lighting, home porch lights, etc.

These look promising, indeed.

Could you please clarify that the camera is indeed equipped with Sony IMX327 ?
Asking cause there's a mention by wopi82 in another thread that this cameras is based on Sony IMX290

4231t-ASE has IR light, better use at very poor light place, 4239T-ASE, no IR light, if use poor light place totally dark, but if have some light there, can get good true color pic, future starlight will be full color camera at low light places too.

4239T-ASE is superior in the environments where there are street lights and/or all-night-long porch lights present.
It will provide you with a good full-color night image thanks to its very bright lens.
But it won't work well in the very low light, especially near dark (to the naked eye) environments since it lacks IR. Without IR a bright lens/sensitive sensor combo will only go so far.
That's where 4231t-ASE should be chosen.
 
This cam is pretty amazing in low light. Thanks @EMPIRETECANDY as I just received the one I ordered to play with it. I'm SUPER impressed. Here's a 4am shot compared to a 10am shot (overcast for both)

Here you can see the 4239 at 4am and 10am. And the 5231 at 4am. 5231 is in B&W using an pretty powerful external IR light. But I thought it might help to give some an idea of what real world difference it is between IR and Color at the same time. Difference being that the 4239 has really NO white light other than the one neighbors front porch light. There are NO white lights on at my house. Only IR. Pretty amazing. For a home setup I think these would make great overview cameras.
