I have a Ruger Precision Rifle in 6.5mm Creedmoor that I got for long range shooting. But have only gone out to 430yds or so.

I did shoot out to 1000yds at a Long Range School that was run by the NRA back in 2016 and has since been spun-off to Outdoor Solutions.

Long Range Shooting | Hunting Schools | Texas | UT | MI (outdoorsolutionscorp.com)

At the time they were using a Weatherby Vanguard in 6.5mm Creedmoor. You can get one in .308 from Cabela's for $540. They have since moved on to Remington 700 5-R and Benelli Lupo. The optics will make a huge difference at those ranges. They were using Huskemaw Blue Diamond 5-20X50 8 MOA scope at the time. It is $1700 from Optics Planet. They are now using Zeiss.

I really liked that school. The rifle was just fine out to those distances. But beyond 1000yds to a mile, you would need something better. Of course, the Rem 700 is a top notch for long range and most of the competitors at the club I belong to are using some form of Rem 700 in their builds. But those guys spend $5000 or more on their rigs.
That REALLY looks nice!

Found this good review, apparently aimed a bit more at law enforcement...
The review mentions that the bolt can be annoying when sliding forward-- seems to "catch" and bind a bit... did you notice that?

"Allegedly" --- with the trial over, did they or didn't they? Did any of you "own" a firearm when you were under 18 and I assume a parent bought it if you did?

Wow. Im at a loss.

So are the 156 parents of underage "children" who shot someone up in just Chicago alone last week going to be put on trial? or only select white parents?

The Judicial system is hopelessly corrupt. Its not going to save us. It WILL continue to get worse

This is our school district, so we've been here on this throughout... There is plenty of blame to go around on this one, including school officials, etc... This verdict opens a big can of worms and if it doesn't change on appeal, there can be a lot of people going to jail on similar crimes. Heck, pick an inner city on any given weekend... . Yes, they are low lifes. But, that's not a crime... You shouldn't go to jail because you can't afford the gold star lawyer (I know, I know, that's almost laughable, eh?)...

I can't even imagine what it might be like to grow up these days. And, I don't think that kids today could imagine what it was like when I grew up LOL! However, I can say that we simply did not have the volume of these kinds of social, psychological or discipline problems. I hate to just point the finger and blame the decay on liberal policies but damnit, it is...LOL! Parents are the "original teachers" but parents are either not interested in playing that role, don't know how to or they've been made powerless by the liberal policies. I hate like hell that our school system is garbage. Clearly throwing money at it is not the answer. The answer is to look at countries who do perform well and adopt their methodologies as draconian that some might seem to be.

With all due respect, it’s not methodologies or tactics or even money that will change it.
It’s cultural and it will take a minimum of 20-40 years to reverse. That’s IF we started today and didn’t allow it to get worse.

Bring on the comet!

Lawyer on local TV is bringing up the point that one of the reasons she was found guilty was lack of prudence in locking up the weapon and saying... does this mean that a parent is responsible for locking up every baseball bat, screwdriver, etc or else face jail time if their child uses it.......

What happens when the kid borrows the car and kills someone by accident or on purpose. Can of worms.

That is quite a push. There are many things going on here, but one of them IS that the gun was not secured. Like it or not, a firearm IS designed for killing. We all carry one or more everyday for self-protection. I don't carry a baseball bat or a screwdriver for that. Yes, anything can be used as a deadly weapon, but those things were not designed for that purpose. A firearm is. That is why we carry them. Sure I have used all of my many firearms for target shooting, which is not for killing. But the primary purpose is for that. I don't carry a pellet gun for self-defense. I carry a 9mm or a .45 for self-defense.

I have a problem with people not securing their firearms when they are not using them. All of mine are in one of two positions: within my control (on my body, in my hand) or locked up. I really won't even 'hide' one in my car unattended. I know too many people that have had them stolen out of their car.

Kids today do have more peer pressure than we had growing up. Social media has made it so easy for bullying. At least when we were kids, the bullying stopped once we got home. Now kids get targeted on social media 24/7. And since they just can't put their phones down, they see it and are tormented by it, even at home.

I would not go that far. I would say that a firearm CAN BE USED for killing just like a car, baseball bat, knife etc. can be used for killing and have been used for killing many a time.

I keep my guns secure too. In my house with doors and windows I lock. However, I do agree that if you have a minor in the home then the firearms should be locked or disabled somehow so the stupid shits don't do something stupid. I'm not yet convinced the mother is a murderer manslaughterer as she was judged by her peers.

EDIT: Manslaughter = unlawful, unintentional killing of another person.

I did not follow the trial. I do not know if she was treated fairly in the trial and sentencing.
I didn't follow the details either but it seems like an effed up complete family, community, gubermint breakdown. Be prepared for the "all the signs were there" articles that are still coming out hot off the press. Always the hindsight...

There is a case where a man gets drunk at a bar, drives to a gas station gets gas then drives off and kills someone with his vehicle. His attorney sued the bar and gas station and won the case blaming them for his manslaughter. I know this is different than a parent who is responsible for their kids, but if you think about it, was it the bar tender's fault for over serving, or the gas attendant's fault for allowing the drunk to buy gas and drive off? The difference is, they are not responsible for that person, a parent is, IMO.

I know this is a harsh statement I am about to make, especially since I am a parent/grandparent, but we all know the majority of our problems today are how people are, or their lack of, parenting their kids. Many parents, IMO, should Not have had kids in the first place. No, I do not want to go into the abortion debate, that is Not the answer to fix Stupidity or what is the right age to have kids...I guess what I am saying, when we become adults, we are responsible for any and all of our actions, but with a juvenile who's brain is not fully developed understanding/responsibility/consequences and who is under the guardianship of parents, or even the state foster care system, I Do partially blame the parents.

I agree with locking up guns, but think about locking up liquor/alcohol, the kids find a way to get to these. Proper parenting is the answer...

Look at Hamas, they teach their children to hate/kill Jews. Are the children Fully responsible for their actions as children, or are the parents?

Another case comes to mind, of course ya'll know me, it is not directly related, lol, but is worth sharing. There was a man who would not stop having kids, had several baby mammas, and did not pay any child support. The judge gave him a choice, either get a vasectomy or go to jail. Why did I bring that up? Well if he got a vasectomy it solved the bad parenting problem right...LOL

Every case is different but if there is a law that a parent can get charged and go to jail for the actions of their kids, will that make parents do their parenting job better? Don't know...hopefully it does not come to this...
