Too little to late. US bases are there in northern syria. A low pass of warplanes or a gunship circling above would have sent the message to HTS/ISIS regime.

Russians did the killing in Ukraine .. civilians also ..

Iran was also helping to shield the people against ISIS / ISIL / IS ..

So, yes - Russia is an enemy, but can also be a friend .. friend-enemy I guess ..

similar to China, Iran, Israel, USA ..

civil war, war, conflicts .. this is why you want to encourage stable borders and trade, as the other option is just not pretty.
