how easy is it to set up TailScale ?

@Heavyopp I don't use BI or UI3, but you only need one instance of Tailscale running behind or on your firewall if you advertize sub-net routes. Then you can access any device using the private IP address assigned by your local network (not the TS assigned IP), including any web applications...

how easy is it to set up TailScale ?

I'm hooked up to tailscale, that was a small learning curve but done. What I'm confused on is how to actually see UI3? Maybe I'm overthinking it. I can RDP into my blue iris machine, open the browser and type my UI3 address. Is that it? Seems awful slow and a lot of steps. Is there a way to...

how easy is it to set up TailScale ?

So I’ve set up 3 devices on a Tailscale account. my blue iris machine, iPad, and IPhone - now what? I also have a couple of Amazon fire tablets, one is running UI3 24/7 on LAN — can I utilize this somehow? what is the best way to use Tailscale? Do I need an app for BI on my phone. All I really...

Chat GPT says this is more secure than using a VPN for remote access

I see no latency with Zerotier. My phone traffic does not go through my home LAN. Same thing with Tailscale. The only phone traffic that goes back to your home is the ones you actually set up that way. I have both set up on my phone and my laptop. From my laptop while we are in our RV well away...

Chat GPT says this is more secure than using a VPN for remote access

So question about tailscale. I want my phone's traffic to go through the normal cellular network and not route back to my house for normal use. I am worried that having zero tier always on will do that and will cause latency. I am looking into VPN options now because after less than a week of...

Chat GPT says this is more secure than using a VPN for remote access

I use Zerotier and it is not subscription based and I did not have to do anything remotely as involved as setting up my own server. Very simple and works. I used to use Tailscale but had random access issues. Still use it on occasion from a laptop.

Chat GPT says this is more secure than using a VPN for remote access

+1 for Tailscale MESH VPN. Works automagically! 1. Clients for every OS on the planet. 2. Free tier for up to 3 users and 100 devices. 3. Automatic VPN on demand when off trusted WiFi. 4. Access your entire home network or configure ACLs to limit access. (NAS, cams, security system, lighting...

how easy is it to set up TailScale ?

I assume you are using a standard router (I use Tailscale on my PfSense router). With a standard router, it's easy doing it using PC, like your Blue Iris System. Lon has a good video on setting it up on different OSes/devices. I had some issues getting it to work on PfSense, but finally got...

Updating to BI 5 - thoughts on current gear

...on that NIC) segregated from internet prohibiting any potential for "backdoor" access, this does not protect your home network in general. IF i'm away from my home network and wanted to access BI interface, one way would be to put Tailscale or similar on the 2 nic machine and access it that way?

Set up cameras on a Comcast/Xfinity home network

The simplest way to isolate the cameras when using a PC based VMS is to put 2 NICs in the PC, use different subnets, and not define any routes between them. You will want to run an NTP server on the PC to set the time on the cameras. You could use tailscale or zerotier to facilitate remote access.

Thoughts on Easy/Moderate Secure Home Network Setup with 7 POE IP Cams/Blue Iris + Locks/Doorbells/Zwave (Adding Home Assistant) Tailscale/OpenVPN?

THANKS! This is super helpful. Do you have any home automation or IoT devices? If so, do you do that same for that and can they talk to each other??

Tailscale - No Internet access - but have Internet access

What you are seeing there in the Network and Sharing center is the virtual network adapter which Tailscale software created on your computer. That virtual network adapter does not provide your computer with internet access, therefore it says "Access type: No Internet access". That network...

Tailscale - No Internet access - but have Internet access

...I have two ports on the PC. When I disconnect the camera port, the camera switch is still connected to the main switch, so they still operate, but Tailscale has no Internet. I'm curious if this is common and if Tailscale needs the Internet to function properly or to protect my network properly.

Thoughts on Easy/Moderate Secure Home Network Setup with 7 POE IP Cams/Blue Iris + Locks/Doorbells/Zwave (Adding Home Assistant) Tailscale/OpenVPN?

I've used Tailscale in the past, but am now relying on ZeroTier to access the BI server from outside my LAN. I have my cams on a separate sub-net from the rest of my LAN. That sub-net is not connected to the internet. I do not use VLANS but instead use a second NIC in the BI server and one in...

Tailscale - No Internet access - but have Internet access

...exceptions. Wants Easy>Moderate Secure home network, I’m fairly tech savvy but don’t want to mess with VLANs. Many have recommend Tailscale and/or OpenVPN Separate Guest WiFi so they can’t access network – Think I can do that fairly easily with built in Router/Access Point setup When...

    Rekor Scout and Tailscale

Are you guys using the cloud on Rekor Scout or keeping it all local? I've tried both and neither have been successful. Scout is installed on my BI windows PC and for local web server it shows using Ubuntu. Then for cloud, it's not connecting to my camera, likely because it's behind the VPN.

Zerotier android bug in latest update

...from the internet. Could not get ZT to work, but TS does work using the phone on data or local WiFi to view UI3. Used an GL-MT3000 router with both of ZT and TS installed as it allows TailScale to be used on a device that can not host TS. So far it is a plus for TailScale for this application.

How do I setup my VPN so I am not just pointing it to my house from my laptop (remote)? Help me make this secure (OpenVPN to view my QNAP from laptop)

Thank you, I think I'm following -- so with OpenVPN I am basically relying on my home PC to be clean and all traffic will flow through that, so assuming my home connection is secure so will the device I'm using remotely? Going back to the QNAP, when you say directly connected to the internet...
